I think we will see more cine lenses in the near future. Cheaper ones? maybe not. Glass is the heart of your camera and cheap glass on any camera will make it render poor images. If cine style lenses is what you want a Zeiss ZF lens can be modified with gears and the clicker removed from the iris for a fraction of the cost for CP.2 lenses and will work great.

I tried to see if it hold focus but I don’t trust it. Its a still lens and really isn’t designed to work that way. A proper video lens would be the only one I would trust for zooming.
I like the lens a lot. Its a good value for a fast zoom. I have done some simple sharpness tests and would say for what I paid for it its a steal. Is it the sharpest lens? No. But it cost way less compared to Nikon or Canon at the same f-stop. At 70mm wide open it looks really nice. I did notice that at 50mm wide open its a little softer. I talked to a Tokina engineer and he explained that most zooms are vulnerably in the middle of the zoom range. Still a really nice lens at a pretty good price.

I hear good things with the Olympus Zuiko line of lenses. They are pricey. The great thing about the AF-100 is it can use so many different lenses and the bad thing is it can use so many different lenses. If you have any older manual Nikon/Canon/Zeiss glass that would be a great start. Wide is tougher than standard and telephoto with the crop factor so a standard 50mm is more like 100mm. I would get fast lenses as well. Much better for low light and Shallow DOF.

Try hooking up a nice big HD monitor to it and see for sure. Record what you see then play it back. If it looks soft then you have a camera problem. If not see your eye doc for a shiny new pair of glasses. 🙂

Vimeo is very compressed but its the best we have that I know of.
The image is incredible! As sharp as I want it, and the blacks are so clean they blow me away. I think it has a lot to do with the lenses as well and that brings me to your other question about what lenses I used in the video. I was swapping out a lot for each shot and I will go back figure that out. I can say that the Lumix 20mm was used for all the wide shots and the Canon 70-200 f4 shots of girl on bridge and flower in pond. The shot with the flowers in the foreground and the pond was a Nikon 50mm. More to come.

I don’t know about that one but if it records with pink lines all the time in different settings and you tried different media as well I would see if its still under warranty and have it checked out. Otherwise find an authorized service center near you.

So true. With no iris control I flip the ND filters, switch the iso, even go into the menu and lower it to 200 iso, search about in my gear bag for screw on ND filter and then change the lens. Hahaha. Its all good and fun.
