July 26, 2013 at 8:57 am in reply to: New Sony Vegas Update (Build 670) Now Available …

Well still no fix for “automatically save trimmers and markers in original file”. This bug has been acknowledged by Sony for versions 10,11 and 12 and still no fix. A real shame when you consider it is for proper integration with their own product, Sony XDCAM!!

    Come on, fix it already!

March 25, 2012 at 11:43 am in reply to: Can Vegas 11 get any MORE buggy?

“… and in 6 months time, SVP12 will be out, and like the Lemmings we are, we will part with another $139.95 of our heard earned cash to be on the bleeding edge.”

Don’t be so sure Nigel. I think this time really is different. I’ve purchased the last 4 versions of Vegas but I can promise you that I am not buying 12 as things are right now. No reason too, as I can’t use 11 (or really 10 for the matter) and still rely on V9 to get my work done.

  • What other companies do it that way?

  • Apparently the problem is that Mercalli has two different versions that are possible to download. The Demo and the Real Thing. I think I assumed that all you had to do was register the Demo but no you must download a different version. Seems weird to me.

  • Uninstalled, reinstalled. Doesn’t ask for serial! Extremely annoying. I will send an email to ProDad to see what they say.

  • Thanks Steve, I appreciate the reply. I was afraid that the answer might be as you say because when I install there is no prompt for serial. I guess I will uninstall and try again. Any other suggestions?

Hi Sydney, I read over your post very quickly and hope I didn’t miss anything but have you tried using the XDCAM Explorer in Vegas to import your clips?

January 23, 2012 at 12:37 pm in reply to: Vegas 11: new builds released. Now 521 for 64-bit.

Good one Steve!! V11 is a long way from being prime time ready but the odd thing is that Sony won’t patch up some of the loose ends they left in V10 before they so ambitiously moved onto V11. I’m speaking mainly of the glaring known bug in V10 where Vegas inexplicably will link the wrong video clips to the wrong events on the timeline. MAJOR PROBLEM THAT CAN NOT BE UNDONE WITHOUT REBUILDING FROM SCRATCH. Sony knows about this, HAS ACKNOWLEDGED IT, and even found the fix for this particular bug (while creating dozens of new ones) in V11 but they so far refuse to issue a simple patch 10f to make that version reliable.
We are stuck with two unprofessional versions as the last two releases. Only if you are lucky to have V9 can you feel pretty good about getting your work done without too many headaches.

Sony V11 editing promotion should use the slogan tagline “Edit At Your Own Risk”.

November 16, 2011 at 5:39 am in reply to: Suggested render settings advice

You need to reduce the bit size of the render. You would do this when you “customize” the template that you are rendering currently. You can manually enter a smaller number that is currently there to reduce the size of the file.

Ed Troxel made Excalibur. A completely different app. I have all three and if I had to pick one I would pick Vegasaur. They are all good and each brings something a little different. Vegasaur has a more polished GUI and they seem to be working on and updating the app fairly regularly.
