January 23, 2012 at 12:37 pmGood one Steve!! V11 is a long way from being prime time ready but the odd thing is that Sony won’t patch up some of the loose ends they left in V10 before they so ambitiously moved onto V11. I’m speaking mainly of the glaring known bug in V10 where Vegas inexplicably will link the wrong video clips to the wrong events on the timeline. MAJOR PROBLEM THAT CAN NOT BE UNDONE WITHOUT REBUILDING FROM SCRATCH. Sony knows about this, HAS ACKNOWLEDGED IT, and even found the fix for this particular bug (while creating dozens of new ones) in V11 but they so far refuse to issue a simple patch 10f to make that version reliable.
We are stuck with two unprofessional versions as the last two releases. Only if you are lucky to have V9 can you feel pretty good about getting your work done without too many headaches.Sony V11 editing promotion should use the slogan tagline “Edit At Your Own Risk”.

January 23, 2012 at 1:23 pmThey need to keep upgrading it. I upgraded on Sunday due to crashes that were happening on a particular timeline (a previous different timeline I had been editing on Saturday and Friday had no crashes at all).
I still think there is something horribly wrong with New Blue and Vegas. I am changing my workflow to make NewB work with Vegas. More on that on a different post.

January 23, 2012 at 1:45 pmThey haven’t fixed the issue I posted about either regarding the size of the Dynamic Ram for preview affecting rendering times.

January 23, 2012 at 7:30 pmI installed vegas pro release 11.0.521 three days ago.
There is something seriously wrong with the rotation when using pan & crop it skips & zooms eradically. I would highly recommend doing a restore point before the install, if you have the same issue you will want to restore. Release 11.0.425 does not contain the same issue. So far I have not been able to load a 11.0.521 project into the restored 11.0.425 verson… and that is a very BAD thing, thanks Sony. -

Here’s a reply direct from Sony on the Sony Vegas forum about this issue.
We have reproduced the Pan/Crop rotation error and are working to address it in a forthcoming update.
Please note that Build 521 is intended to fix only the short list of bugs mentioned in the release notes, however we will be releasing another update in the near future, which will resolve more of these issues. -

January 23, 2012 at 8:20 pmCrash, Crash, Crash!
“Upgraded” a few days ago, editing was fine, but now I’m grading my cut and am constantly crashing when switching between filters. Sony updates are one step forward and two steps backward in version 11.

January 23, 2012 at 8:31 pmRe my earlier post: I was able to get an 11.0.521 created project to load into version 11.0.425. After it failed to load immediately after a restore back to 11.0.425. I simply loaded an older 11.0.425 project and then afterwards successfully loaded the project generated in 11.0.521. All pan crop rotational issues have vanished using release 11.0.425… Editorial Comment: get to work Sony, who is doing your release quality control?

January 24, 2012 at 3:07 amI do. Sony Vegas has been going backwards in stability since version 9. I moved to Sony Vegas because other editing software I used was unstable.
I typically have a number of crashes in Vegas in projects that never used to crash. My projects are multi-cam HDV. It usually takes 2-3 attempts to complete a render: typically it first stalls, then crashes and then finally renders. No difference in render settings, same project. Go figure. Thankfully, I don’t rely on Vegas for a living, otherwise I would be missing lots of deadlines.
I think Sony should take the Pro out of the software title because it certainly is not living up to its name.
Don’t get me wrong: I love the software, but hate the instability that is beginning to creep in with each release. I feel that version 11 (released 12 months after version 10), was just a means to sucker us to paying for a evolutionary rather than revoluntionary update.
