You can always test it for yourself. I haven’t tried done really any shooting off of 800iso. If you are shooting RAW, then ISO doesn’t matter.

  • I use Mac and love this renaming app.

It has every feature I could want in this sort of app, though I think the UI could be a bit better.

I use the Lilliput 7″ 663/O/P/S2 monitor with my BMCC. I love it. You can find it for well under $600 on ebay. It has a great screen, hood, HDMI & SDI, most all video scopes and assists you could need.

While that is an older machine, the hour your said it took to transcode a 3 minute ProRes clip to h.264 seems too long.

    I tried a test on my computer, a hackintosh with a 3.4Ghz i7 CPU and 16GB ram.
A 4 minute 1080p24 ProResHQ video transcoded in Adobe Media Encoder using its Youtube 1080p preset.
Using the the CPU for rendering, software mode, it took 4 minutes.
Using CUDA accleration, which uses my GTX 670 video card, it took 3:54.

I hope those stats help you can speed up your workflow!

Transcoding from a high data rate professional format to a more compressed format can take quite a while if the computer executing the task isn’t a more powerful system.
Let us know the specs of your system (CPU, RAM, GPU) and what software your are using, and we could let you know if there is a faster way to get the job done.
If time is an issue, I would consider upgrading your storage space. It is an easy and a relatively inexpensive upgrade that would save all that transcoding time, and allow you to not loose all that wonderful image quality of ProRes.

The URSA doesn’t have a RAW output, so no external RAW recorder is possible. Also, if the URSA’s media cost is too much, any of the external RAW recorders would be certainly way too much for you.
Consider the BMPC, it records 4K RAW to an SSD internally, for a much lower cost per minute of recording than the URSA.

I am not familiar with all that FCPX does, I edit in Premiere and Resolve. I suspect it could, if it can import cDNG files.
I suggest downloading the free version of Resolve Lite, it is the preferred software for the Blackmagic cameras as they are from the same company. Resolve can absolutely create proxy files of your cinema DNG footage.

You don’t convert something to a proxy, you create a new proxy files of the originals (likely the originals are cinema DNG’s) edit those on the timeline, and re-sync the dng’s you need for final project from the timeline. Proxy files are just lower data rate video file copies of the footage you shot that can be edited easier because of their smaller file sizes.
I would shoot Prores HQ while the camera and workflow is still new to you. Prores HQ is still a very, very high quality format and is edit ready right out of the camera.
Sorry I can’t help much with workflow, when I edit my BMCC RAW video, I just edit and grade in Resolve.

Yes, since those are all manual lenses there is nothing making them incompatible if the mounts are the same.
