A pop screen has no effect on high frequency Ssss sounds. It’s designed to prevent “P” pops and breath blasts from affecting the microphone diaphragm.

Contact every sound guy in a 100 mile radius, introduce yourself and tell them that if they get double booked,get sick,win the lottery, etc, that you’ll cover for them. Also say that you’ll work for whatever the rate is and most important that you won’t hand out your business card to their clients. Opening a dialog with other mixers in the general area is the best way to establish yourself and your credibility. Good luck.

Just suggesting possible causes. The feed from the board went dead, you forgot to push the record button, the connection into the recorder got pulled out, you had a bad cable. Can you replicate the setup again and see if the recorder works?

I find it very strange that you would ask your client how much they are willing to pay after the job is done. How do you handle the “$10” an hour answer? A long job for me is anything that takes more than 10 hrs and I always set the rate before hand. It’s just good business.

P.S. You never ask the client what they think is a fair price. You tell them what rate you expect to be paid.

What is a “100,000” audio book? I would bid the job at an hourly rate of at least $60 an hour with a 15 hour minimum. So if you complete the job in 10 hours you’ll still get $900. The devil is in the details.

Not that it will solve the problem but if you have the external wall wart power supply, do you get the unit to power up when using the supply?
