    Measure it on what piece of equipment with what metering at what voltage? You have to calibrate your playback unit with a known source level to know where to put your reference point. A long, long time ago in another era we used professionally made calibrated alignment tapes…..but things were much simpler then.

    It seems you’re mixes are a bit too low. See attached quote.

    The Sennheiser G series have non removable built in antennas for the *TX & RX. Getting the RX antenna in a clear line of sight to the TX antenna is most important. 90-120 yards is about maximum useable range for the G series under the best conditions.

    *TX=Transmitter. RX=Receiver.

  • While it might be too late now for this project, another way of insuring sync is to have the soundmixer send a wireless audio feed to the camera.

  • The problem is with the C300. It does not hold internal tc on it’s own. It wanders & drifts. You’re going to need an external tc source connected to the camera that has been jammed from the soundmixers recorder to get matching sync between the recorder & the camera.

    You have just learned the basics of gain staging and the most important rule of working with new gear which is RTFM. When you figure out what that means you’ll be miles ahead.

  • Set your tx & rx to -20. Be sure your camera is set for mic level in. If you keep the levels peaking on the camera to -10 you should fine.

    I have a number of friends who are “wedding videographers” and they do whatever needs to be done to get the audio from the DJ. While a line feed is best from the DJ’s mixer more times than not and for various reasons they can’t get the feed. Their fallback is the TX on a PA speaker, sometimes it’s clean and sometimes it’s distorted. None of them have ever said anything about lav damage. It’s an uphill battle regardless.
