As far as I know you can’t create MPEG 2 files with MPEG Streamclip, you can only read, convert and demux files from a DVD or already encoded mp2 file. You can use Apple Compressor to do it if you have that or just bring your files into Toast and let Toast do it.

MediaInfo will tell you the scan type of the footage. It’s a good tool for a variety of things:

What program are you using to transcode? Apple’s Compressor was known to mess with gamma when going to H.264, usually washing the image out a little bit.

Um not that I’m aware of or can think of. DVCPRO HD and ProRes both play nicely with FCP. I personally prefer to render before I export but I don’t think it matters either way.

1. No, bring it over as you are. FCP7 will scale it down to 720.
2. As you found, you can put a DVCPROHD clip into a ProRes timeline without having to render
3. This depends. What is most of your footage shot in?? A ProRes 720P sequence should work out for you.

ClipWrap was going to be my suggestion; we use it here all the time with no problems. Is that other person getting audio on their home machine? ClipWrap is a pretty straightforward tool, not a lot settings to mess up that would strip audio so I’m wondering if audio just wasn’t captured on location.

Have you tried setting the x264 tune option to Animation?
If you go to the “Options” dialog box in the Compression Settings dialog box and then “Load Preset” in the lower left corner of the x264 settings dialog box that pops up, there is a x264 tune dropdown which allows you to select Animation.
If that doesn’t work, why not just try a normal H.264 for kicks to see what happens?

What format are you editing? Have you tried a “Save As” to save a new project file, shut down the computer for a few minutes, trash preferences?
