I also has Dantz Restrospect running (years ago) every hour backing up Maya. Max, After Effects and others plus their resources to another server.
Now that we’re running everything off XServes, I only have to do that with Avid MC and FCPX files.

Its back to old school folks.
After final, end of day, heck even during editing, I would shut down FCPX and copy a version off to another drive.
Thats how it was for me back in the day with most of my work (3D, Motion and Finishing).
Ive had one project corrupt and it was back in June.
Never again after that, call me lucky I guess.

Do you want to lower the clips Diffuse Color?
Im not sure if anyone would be adding a transparency to a clip on the A track (in this case the Primary Storyline)wihtout adding a clip under it for layering.
Not sure what your plans are but if want to save the clip out with an Alpha Channel why not just place it in the Connected section?

Edit: My bad I dont think you can export from FCPX with Alpha at current state.

I was running MC 6 on 10.7.3 from the get go.
I didnt check if it wasnt compliant.

Depends, the animation is easy enough but the creative resources could take some time to wrangle.
