I second Dave…Photoshop.
Just not gonna get into the technique since that would be more Graphic Design as oppose to After Effects related.
However if you wanted to try and create that in AE using Masks, the new mask option in CS6 would actually help 🙂
Would still be way easier in Photoshop. -
Mine has changed too 🙂 but I was for FCPX at the start. I had the chance to take in the hoopla at NAB last year and was not at all feeling that FCP was left for dead by Apple.
See the diff is that Im an Avid MC user at work but teach FCP at local college. I had the pleasure of starting a new course in Sept that year and had the chance to actually go into the guts of X with the intent of matching/better than FCP legacy. Not make FCP look bad but to assure students that they are not learning a lame duck app.
I was shocked at start of class when I gave the students an option to learn old instead of new and they all picked new.
Were they all heading to Hollywood to edit a blockbuster…nope.
They were all willing to learn something new even if they had all summer to read all the negative press.
My perception has changed from having to learn it to deliver a class to actually finding many uses for it even though we are Avid dominant at work 🙂 -
I experienced with an older FCPX install.
Caused by meddling with the QT clip in the Event folder in After Effects.
Something got weird with the files and prevented FCPX from reading them.
Fixed with 10.0.2 upgrade. -
Are they fresh new installs of Lion?
Ive seen this happen with other apps (Symphony update in a week)and most of the time a fresh install of Lion helps. -
is that the logo you are working with?
at times, some effects dont work due to the logo design or amount of pixels you are working with.
I like working with big chunky logos 🙂 -
I will trade any 17″ model option if they offer a Retina 30″ with 4k and up res 😉

True Joakim. Plus the fact that most of us still only output to HD. In a few years my dept. has to be able to push to real 4K projectors so hoping things change for the better then.

Clip Skimming is one of my faves.
I work with a ton of Compound Clips.
