I just got final cut pro x and the video doesn’t work! All that shows up is an exclamation point on a red background where video should be. Everything worked in final cut pro 7 so I don’t know what the problem is.

Is this original/optimized media or proxy media? Are playback preferences set to optimized/original or proxy?

    All the best,

    I’ve tried both and I don’t see a difference.

Then the video is offline. Is it in the event folder?

It is showing that the media is offline, How did you get the media into the project? Where is the media located? Has any other programme accessed that media since you imported it? Have you tried re-importing it?

The media is on my desktop and I’ve dragged and dropped it and also just imported it normally. If I import mp3’s or pictures, they show up but any video file has that weird exclamation point.

What video format, frame rate and codec are the clips

Can you create a new user on your Mac, open up FCPX as the new user and then try importing the footage again. It’s not a solution but it might indicate there is a problem with your install

I just created a new account, logged into that one and opened the same file but nothing is different.

For what it’s worth, that alert means the file was changed by something other than FCP.
