Even with an old Uni MBP from 2008 we were able to keep FCPX at R3D level.
But your workflow is pretty close to mine.
However with the R3D proxies, why do you need to trick the Event?
Ive done this before and OFFLINED the R3Ds then switch off proxies to link back to original R3Ds.
Unless I misunderstood your workflow.

My workflow would be the same as it was back in my SGI days and when it was packaged with Maya.
No different really from AE as far as the use of the software.
Sure some form of Dynamic Linking would be nice but then Id welcome that with AE first.

Michael I would agree with you (grumpy old man here too) but after playing it to my Premiere students (9am to 1pm Sat morning class), their eyes lit up and thanked me for exposing them to that video and article.
I even received emails hours after with their thoughts on the fcp.co article.
Sure we can critique technique at any time but to me its priceless when you can inspire people to this medium.

Sadly I agree to some extent.

When its a very long winded workflow issue, I get the occasional true professional replying.

But when its a simple, why doesnt your product do this one thing that it should…

I eventually go to support which bothers me as to why the forum is there.

I started on that forum during the BMCC debacle 😛

For 5 months I was on that daily/hourly hoping to hear answers.

It was quite a mess and Im glad I cancelled my orders.

Have you tried deleting the currentversion.flex file?

Do it with FCPX off and see what happens at after re-starting.

Ive had to do this a few too many times but it worked for me.

Other steps were to re-import (Drag and drop at times) all the associated media and hope it re-links with the Project.

This might not work for you but a few months ago same thing happened to me.
My only fix at that time was to re-import the whole lot into a new Event.
Then I dragged it all over to the older Event.
Now the non-Event point Im a little iffy about.

This is odd.

Last night I cut a friends (okay ex-gf) wedding video she was involved in.

For the heck of it I went Optimized ProRes 444 at 4K UHD.

After about an hour and maybe a 4.5 min timeline, I started experiencing the gripes folks have expressed here.

Now this is the first time Ive used ProRes 4444 and usually stay at at R3D RAW.

For the fun of it, Ill take the same project and delete the optimized files and redo with HD res and see if I can choke it.

Files reside on a SAS R680 GTECH eS Pro 12TB system running of a 2012 Mac Pro with 32GB and 512SSD as host drive.

Again never had this issue with super long format edits.

Agreed on the format question.
I work 99% with R3D files in RAW (no optimize) at all times.
The last two big projects was a full feature and a 30 min webiposode.
Now of course Im using a 2012 Mac Pro with SAS GTECH eS Pro RAIDs and a ROCKET card.
My local is an 512 SSD and all Libraries reside on a SAS RAID.
Now to put things in perspective, we do the same thing on MacBook Pro Retinas, GRAID mini but with optimized to Pro Res 4444 at 4K.
Same with our Avid MC OFFLINE system.

Oops yes I should have mentioned that.

I was researching the mTape optiona and someone threw the Tandberg into the mix.

Got me intrigued but your right, its DISK and I fear a single 2TB will not suffice my RED archives 🙁
