No experience with Fusion drives.
When you say 3GB, do you mean the internal drive is only 3GB?

That iMac is a pretty decent config for what you need.
However it all depends on what kind of 4K workflow your looking at.
I for one edit on a few variations of D500/D700 as well as MPB and cMP with ROCKET cards.
Since my workflow is basically RED R3D centric I have a good handle on my I/O for playback.
I do believe if your using a different workflow such as BMD, ARRI and anything other than R3D, you might have to beef up on the hard-drive speeds.
Then you might have to hit a D700 with Thunderbolt RAIDs.
Not sure if the iMac can handle for I/O with multiple RAIDs.
Now since your staying in the FCPX world, your still in good hands with that iMac.

After a few days into this project I am finding that Premiere needs to adopt some helpful functions from other apps.
Besides the merge clip into lower track a “open in timeline” option would really help when doing quick and dirty audio tricks.
I know I could use nesting but that takes a bit more steps and it doesn’t transfer well to other apps during XML export. -
Why not use REDCINE and export AAF from there?
This way you have a connection with the RED files.
Now your on an old version so I cant honestly vouch it works. -
There are utility software that can sched backups for you.
I am not sure if the freebie Time Machine can do this.
I use Dantz Retrospect but its not cheap. -

Oh that’s common in Avid for me as well.
Every so often I would be deep into a project with no issues then the next day, the segmentation error pops up and basically have to do one of the following:
re-installing/upgrading/reformatting (worse scenario)So yea I feel for yaa

Im too old to get into this but Ill add my 4 cents (Canadian).
Unless you have a ton of time in your hands and very tech savy, I would stick with a Mac.
That dont mean Mac folks are lazy/un-edu, too me I spend way too much time fixing issues with the PCs at work and home compared to my Macs.
I am not sure what formats your having issues with but if you really need a cross platform one just download the Avid codecs and render to DNxHD/HR or the PC.
Its free and works the same as ProRes.
I wear many hats and they all need Macs/PCs. -
nesting works but what if you really want just one track for XML export?
with nesting XML export into REDCINE comes up with an empty file.
if I were to nest, multi-cam then flatten, you lose the other tracks.
is there an option similiar to FCPX Collapse into main track (Primary storyline)?
