Your HDV footage is going to be a problem. HDV Quicktimes will only play back on FCP equipped Macs. You could convert to ProRes, or recapture. I’m not sure about AIC, but I think it’s the same as HDV/QT (won’t work in Windows). You can install ProRes playback codecs into PPro/PC, so ProRes would work, and should probably be your choice for conversion if you go that route rather than recapturing.

I used to have “creeping” panels in CS3, only to find out it was a conflict with the Microsoft Intellimouse driver (mouse driver). Uninstalling the Microsoft driver fixed the problem (Windows will just switch to the default mouse driver).

Frankly I wish they brought back export movie too. I miss exporting QTs with preserved metadata (like timecode).

I was having a similar problem with CS4, although I was getting temporary lockups, and in some cases the video would stop and the audio would keep playing. I was also trying to edit HDV from a single drive. Theoretically this should work, with HDV sharing DVs 25 mb/s data rate – well within the range of a single HDD. And it did seem to work well in CS3.
But moving my CS4 project to my high speed RAID (on the same system) eliminated the problem. So it very well might be related to your disk setup. What happens if you delete the audio track? (presuming that this lowers the drive activity enough to enable smoother playback)? You could also try turning off drive indexing on your video drives (which should boost performance slightly and really isn’t needed on video drives).

What I’d do is find out musically how long you want each image to be by putting the music and just a couple of clips on the timeline and manually determining the appropriate duration for an individual image (duration is displayed in the info window for selected clips).
Then I would set this as my default still duration in prefs/general. Then I would storyboard (arrange) the images in the proper order in the bin, and drag them en-masse to the timeline. You will have to tweak durations, since the cuts are only approximately timed to the beats at this point. Use the left arrow tool (ripple tool) to move clips into sync with the minimum number of adjustments.
On some music, the rhythm (beats) can be seen in the waveform, and that can help getting everything in sync.
Then you can quickly place dissolves between clips by using the “page down” hotkey (that jumps from cut to cut) and the “ctrl-D” hotkey combo to add a default (dissolve) transition between each image.

2) Load QT clip into QT Player. Go to “window->movie properties->presentation”. Check “conform apeture to (clean apeture)” box.
3) Save (to retain settings). -
Must be version 1. I imagine these features weren’t incorporated when this version came out (five years ago).

What version of Premiere do you have?

DnxHD codecs that will work in Premiere are downloadable from the Avid website. Not sure if they will work on 1.5, but my guess is that they would.
