maybe this is too obvious, but:

In my 3d work I have a standard set of folders: Objects, Images, Renders, Sound, etc.

Rather than laboriously recreating these for each project, I simply make a master EMPTY folder with all the subfolders already created. When I start a new project I just copy and rename this empty structure and WALLAH! instant everything.

And I name the empty master folder something like “aaa-Empty3d” so that it’s always at the very top of my root directory, so I don’t have to search for the damn thing. Conversely, you might name it “zzz-Empty” if you prefer it at the bottom.

March 5, 2012 at 4:21 pm in reply to: Workflow: make subclips while logging media?

    Thanks for everybody’s help.

I would usually make subclips pretty sloppy intentionally, and the original source clip is still there in the worst case.

Still learning the ropes in VMS, so trying to determine optimum workflow. There’s SO many features it’s hard to know if one is just being ignorant of some fantastic tool that would make things a breeze.

That said, I haven’t found good logging/commenting features that would make organizing and referencing media much faster than handwritten notes. (And logging seems to take the most time, with the least fun.) For instance, AFAICT, labeling/commenting clips requires ‘wayyy too many mouse clicks/mouse movement. But there might be some feature somewhere I’m not aware of yet.

At least I found the “Automatically Open In Trimmer” switch. That alone makes a hell of a difference.

March 5, 2012 at 6:33 am in reply to: MS11: Project Media menu shortcut keys?

Hmmm, is that feature (Customied Keyboard) available in Sony Vegas Movie Studio?? I see the “Customize Toolbar”, but not keyboard.

Is this perhaps only for PRO users?

I’m still at a loss as to how one accesses the key functions on the menus that are pop-up, not the title bar menus. As usual, holding the ALT key plus the first letter of a title bar menu causes that menu to pop down, but what about Right Mouse Button menus???

    Tnx!

Ahhh, good to know VMS is keyboard configurable, THANKS!

But, just for drill I’d still like to know how they expect you access these marked functions in the popup menus (I’m assuming the ‘top of the window’ menus to function conventionally).

Thanks again! I gotta lotta catching up to do.

As is so often true, figured it out ten minutes later.

The secret is to invoke a NEW viewer via the dropdown in the current viewer. Then you can drag it to wherever you want.

INteresting. I wonder if there’s a way to use IK and to get a nice solid outline around the (outside of only) character, as the art direction requires.

    Thanks for the link.
