February 19, 2013 at 5:29 am in reply to: CS6: OpenEXR import and buffer separation?

I got that now. I must say that’s some of the most elliptical documentation I’ve ever seen.

I’m working w/a 3d app that exports the Shadow buffer, apparently, as just a single 8 bit buffer/layer (no color info) inside the EXR file. In the EXtractoR plugin, what do I assign to the RGB channels to use the shadow buffer as a Multiply layer in AE to implement a shadow?

And what does the “copy” parameter in the channel substitution dialog mean? Copy from the original layer?

    Thanks.

February 7, 2013 at 10:32 pm in reply to: Not seeing 3d camera icon and FOV

False alarm/pilot error/idiot at the controls:

Since this was a imported scene, the camera, at 70 meters in the 3d app, was ‘wayyyyyyyyyyy offscreen in the orthogonal view.

Kind of a pain: can I just parent EVERYthing to a null, scale it, and get it all into the (nominal) orthographic view?

(I hate 3D in AE: its 2D origins really show thru.)

    Yes. “FOV”= field of view.

January 18, 2013 at 6:51 pm in reply to: Prelude: multiple ingests from one clip?

    Thanks for the reply!

I was hoping that, with the capabilities in Prelude to have “partial Ingestion” (ha!), that Adobe might also have included “multiple partial ingestions”, but it sounds like they didn’t.

EG, in your example, there would be a lot of wasted disk storage full of useless chaff, just to get the multiple kernels of valuable footage. While subclips would helpfully isolate The Good Stuff, you’d still be stuck with all the chaff.

It seems like Partial Ingestion is only good for discarding the unused headers/trailers of a clip. Is that accurate?

    Thanks!

December 17, 2012 at 6:36 pm in reply to: Center en masse Text Layers’ anchor point?

    Thanks for that pointer.

It would be superior to alter the TEXT>>LAYERS script I’m using to generate the comp, but I’m very new at scripting and didn’t want to get embroiled in a big mess. Perhaps it’s very simple.

    THANKS!

Got it: it’s the ray-traced renderer. When I switched back to “Classic 3D” the stroke-reappeared.

    Thanks.

  • Thanks for the effort: I think they did it by precomping the rotating image w/sufficient border so that the bckg never shows, then using CC Repetile. It’s certainly doable that way.
