A raid 0 on the TB would be enough to handle Red media and a Raw layer or 2. Beyond that you are looking at the 4bay units or better depending on the codec and layers.

4K media has different disk requirements depending on what codecs. Those Red drives are not the ones you want since their Variable drives. Also don’t use Raid 5 on the onboard controller. That is just asking for problems. I would suggest getting the enterprise drives and raid 10 on the onboard or get a SAS raid controller such as Intel/LSI or Areca and run a raid 5 or 6. Raid 10 with 4 enterprise drives will give you around 300MB/s or so. A 4 drive raid 5 with hose drives would be about the same. That is enough for Red and Raw but not any uncompressed formats above 1080. I would also suggest a 1000W PSU. Beyond that the rest looks ok. Keep in mind those Evo drives perform ok as individual drives but are horrible in raid. I suggest getting the Crucial drives instead regardless.

Yes Dynamic Link could be causing the Media Browser not to recognize the files. Run a scan on that drive with Disk utility and makes sure the partition table integrity is good.

Also keep in mind that the cooling on the air is not meant for long renders or editing that keeps the heat up. You will thermal damage the CPU eventually. The MBP’s are also limited there as well though not as much as the airs.

What resolution is the DVCPro HD in? Do you lose playback if the DVCPro HD is in the same timeline as other media?

Mpeg 2 is supported in general but there are more than 1 flavor of Mpeg 2 wrapping for codecs. That is why it’s not being recognized.

The External drive is likely causing it. The drive signature may not be recognized by the media browser and it will go to regenerate the files then.

That is what I suspected. You have something at the beginning of the sequence that is not threading well. Offline the MOV files at the beginning and run the export see if the threading changes.

Bring up Task manager and go to the performance tab. Go under options at top and select always on top. Start the export and then take a screen shot once the rendering starts. Let me see what the threading is like.
