MOV and AVI are not codecs. Those are formats. What are the codecs used with the MOV and AVI files?

Sounds like you used the Sony software to convert the media. Did these not come off the camera as MP4/AVC?

What created these Mpeg2 files?

That will definitely not handle Red over 1080 well at all. You really need a system with atleast 32GB of ram and a far better CPU. The GPU would need to be far better and preferably an Nvidia card. Red will push even a Dual Xeon system that is 32 threads or higher so you really should discuss some tech investment here with who ever you are working with.

Outside of that then it has to be the driver for the Blackmagic since your on OSX. What driver version are you using?

I know the Blackmagic needs to be an end chain device. I am not sure about the Matrox. I have installed Aja and Blackmagic together and it works fine so it should work if the software can handle it.

The comments you see are likely related to the PCI-E Gen 3. The Mac Pro’s don’t have PCI-E gen 3 slots which the newer cards use. I wouldn’t worry about that though because the current GPU acceleration is not normally pushing a PCI-E Gen 2 16 X slot.
