  • The source monitor is just the player. There is no acceleration going on there anyway. This is something else. What media is that?

  • I have others reporting 10.9.4 beta fixes the hardware acceleration on playback and export. Do you use 3rd party FX?

This is a known issue on the nMPro with 10.9.3 update. The 10.9.4 Beta so far seems to resolve the issues. Either download the Beta or wait for the official release.

3GB will be enough currently for 4K but 6GB is definitely where you want to be if that is an option. Keep in mind GPU acceleration is constantly evolving which means caching models change and use far more ram. The coming GPU accelerated debayering for Red will further increase ram space used on the GPU’s. However keep in mind system ram is used to create the buffers and shadow to GPU ram. So that means you need to increase the system ram to utilize the greater GPU ram.

May 31, 2014 at 5:35 pm in reply to: After effects cache on SSD

Due to how SSD drives bypass using the permanent erase write cycles on the MLC, the drive will slow down over time due to garbage filling on the drive that has been deleted and not cleaned up. The firmware of the SSD decides how efficiently the SSD cleans up the drive but the drive will still slow down eventually. The way to reset the drive is to wipe it normally with writing zeros. That is easy to do on a media or cache drive but not easy to do on the OS. I would not suggest using the OS SSD drive for media at all. AE cache is fine but not the media cache or media files. If you want those on an SSD then get a 2nd just for those.

May 28, 2014 at 10:11 pm in reply to: AVCHD vrs. CS6?

Can you take the media into CS5 and convert it to Cineform then import the Cineform files into CS6? As stated below CC has options to run with internal deployment now and don’t require an internet connection to validate subscription. I know GOV and EDU are able to get those licenses. I am not sure about other entities.

I have not noticed AVCHD showing those anomalies before in CS6 but then again I never really was looking for them. Is this all Interlaced media or mix of Progressive and Interlaced?

Do you have any system with the Cloud installed? If not download the trial of Premiere and then check the media quick.

Can you export via Media Encoder? What happens if you don’t select Max Quality?

Kevin someone brought up a point I didn’t think about before in the Red Forums. Does the Open CL in Premiere reference the Cuda Player at all in Adobe? If so that may be why those who have tried the OSX Cuda update are able to export via GPU acceleration on.
