What were you doing with the Quicktime files? I assumed those were going to Premiere.

BTW read this on AE colorspace and control

What colorspace are you outputting when you create the Quicktime file? What colorspace did you want to output? Right now the work colorspace is off. Quicktime lossless is not always the best output for Windows AE. I suggest using AVI lossless and checking to see what the difference looks like. Avoid PNG right now on output when you can on Windows because the performance for threading is poor.

What do you have the color space set to for output. Are you on Windows and if so can you export to AVI Lossless?

  • Depending on the OS and audio interface yes. Adobe on Windows works fine with the WDM sound device and syncs perfectly. If the device supports Asio and the asio device is selected then the sync is often broken. OSX uses Core Audio and normally works fine with most devices. However Apogee may not like the OSX implementation of Core Audio and instead use their own since it’s an external device with different buffering. That really is device and bus dependent.

  • What are your audio preferences set to inside of Premiere? Can you screen shot them?

  • No The GPU acceleration only handles certain aspects of the frame data. The decoding and encoding is done at the CPU. 4K frames require a significant amount of processing dependent on the codec of media your coming from and going to. The system you mention will not handle 4K frames very well because the CPU processing capability is significantly lower than the current CPU’s especially the E5 v2 Xeons. The ram bandwidth also is a major concern since that is how the data transits to the GPU for GPU processing and then back again to the CPU. Changing the Video card will only help so much and that CPU will not be able to really push the data fast enough for any significant load on the current GPU’s. If your moving to a 4K workflow then it’s time for a new workstation.

  • The Blackmagic cards function as a standalone audio output device but not an input device. The Blackmagic cards require a video signal to bring in the audio signal. If you just want an audio input then you require a real audio interface. I would suggest looking at the Steinberg UR22 or UR44. Both are USB audio interfaces with good quality A/D converters for the price.

Yes there are verified issues with 10.9.3 and Adobe or Davinci. Fixes are coming. Try staying in software MPE mode until then.

Understand that people were trying to warn you that problems will arise quite often with workflow and rendering if you don’t have enough ram for AE to function. 4GB is to low for AE and all features even with a Dual core. You have to remember the OS and graphics are using ram as well so you don’t have much with 4GB to start to allocate for the player by itself. 8GB should smooth out basic workflows with a Dual core so the suggestion to 8GB as bare minimum is really something I would consider. 4GB sodimms are not that expensive.
