Errr, wow.
1. What format is your footage in, what did you capture it as?
2.When you say set-up, do you mean the easy set-up you should be using? If so, it should match your captured material settings or you will have to render everything on the timeline as you edit.
3. Levels: I would also get the tech-spec sheet from your client to make sure all your levels, audio and video match their spec or you might get it kicked back at you.
4. I work for a broadcaster and I can tell you, delivering on DVD just ain’t happening. We will only accept, at the moment, masters on a professional grade tape format, like Digital Betacam, or uncompressed 10 bit 4:2:2 Quicktimes, although that is just for promo spots at the moment. This may be different to your delivery requirement, but I’d check it out before you go delivering on DVD. -
Quad G5 4.5Gigs of Ram
Hard Drive config, not that sure, I’ve got the boot disc, then all my media is stored on a 70TB X-san over fibre.

Hi Walter,
tried that, still choking. I’ve taken the same footage clip in at DVCPro HD and it plays fine, I can only think the video card is choking on the datarate and having to re-size at the same time…Thanks for your speedy reply by the way…

Well, it’ll look better, but different on every T.V. When you say T.V monitor, you mean a telly right, not a broadcast monitor?
If that’s the case, then you can’t guarantee the results will look the same on every telly you watch it on, it also has to do with the controls on the actual T.V set. -
Hi David,
my current set-up consists of the usual keyboard and mouse, a Wacom Intuos3 pen and tablet and a J L Cooper MCS-3000 control surface. To be honest most of the time it’s keyboard & mouse, the Wacom I use only when doing effects work, mainly for the sliders, and the MCS-3000 never gets used for FCP, it’s jog and shuttle are pretty useless, I’ve come from a background of Sony 9100’s and the transport control on those things is great, I’ve yet to find a control surface for NLE’s that comes close…but I suppose I’ve been spoilt with the 9100.So, for me it’s keyboard and mouse and the Wacom on occasions. I do use the JL Cooper with Final Touch, (soon to be Color) and it works well as you’ve got the extra buttons for room navigation, grade selection aswell as numeric inputs. But unless you are serious about using it with Color I wouldn’t bother…

As does compressor 2.
Export your timeline using compressor. In the settings dropdown within the batch window, about half way, down is a setting for iPod.

Quite right Shane, what is it with FCP and it’s master/affiliate clip relationships? I’ve had that a couple of times, used 30seconds from a 2 hour feature only for FCP to ask for the whole two hours of footage!
I admit, I don’t do a whole lot of these and have never gone down the ‘make clip independent’ route, does this solve the problem or create a whole new world of wonder?Enge

Ermm, I may have got you wrong here Pat, but I think what you need is this. Load your clip into the viewer, play it down and when you want to mark an in & an out then hit “Apple” “U”. This creates a subclip in your browswer window, or specific bin within that window. You can then name these subclips as you like. I hope that’s what you mean…
