    Hi There,

Does anyone know a good recipe of mpeg 4 settings to use to encode video that will be optimized for the itunes music store download and play good on the ipod? I’ve been trying different settings and nothing seems to look as good as some of the stuff I’ve actually purchased from itunes. What is a safe data rate to aim for and what is too much for ipods to handle in terms of playing back? Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Bud

Quicktime Pro has an export option for IPOD. Just use that.

    As does compressor 2.

Export your timeline using compressor. In the settings dropdown within the batch window, about half way, down is a setting for iPod.

Thanks for the input guys, but is it me or doesn’t the default ipod setting make your video look like crap? I bought a couple videos from the itunes music store and they look great and play at 640×480. That’s more of the setting I was looking for. I’ve had success if I make an mpeg4 with a 2500 kbps data rate, but that seems ridiculously high. Am I being a quality snob?
