    Hi Mark,

I am guessing you had an verbal agreement and there is no contract to clarify the issue.

So here is “my” approach to such situations. These are actually spelled out in my contracts.

1-If I filmed something to edit for a client the client has a right to the raw footage
2-Any metadata that is generated from a software I use and own belongs to me. All after effects files, DVD authoring, photoshop…etc is my intellectual property.
3-If I am working on a project where I am sub contracted to build something,I have to turn over all materials including the metadata and ask for permission to use it to promote myself.

I always use the example of; you can go buy a copy of windows and use it all you want. But try calling microsoft and ask for the source code for windows…!!!!

    Any thoughts, anybody else?

April 25, 2007 at 11:18 am in reply to: is this true…AG-HVX200 for 2,100 bucks???

    Those websites scams are quite simple;

You call and order the camera for $2800, No waranty…shipping $400

They transfer you to the “confirmation” department; thats where the high pressure sales agent takes over.

They say there is no charger or battery inculeded. Add $400+$350 for shipping.

They add on US warrany+clening $600 and reccomend you get their extended coverage + $300.

NOW!!! try teling them you want only the camera and nothing else; they will harras you and if they cant get you to break they send you an e-mail saying the camera is out of stock and it will be 6 months before they get any units.

It is always a scam with those guys…dont risk your hard earned money.

goto http://www.bbb.org and check their reputation, digital liquidators, experss camera…etc they are all the same company with different names. You will notice they answer the phone by saying “how can I help you”, they never say the company name.

buy from BH,abel cine tech, filmtools…etc.

NEVER EVER UNDER ANY CONDITION BUY ALIENWARE!!!!!!

I have horrible stories to tell about them that span a 7 month ordeal but I dont want write a 5000 word essay (I had to take them to court and WON…got my $7000 back.)

But I will %110 endorse BOXX computers, they are built for our field and due to the smaller stucture of the company you get better customer service. When you mention about AVID, after effects, Cinema 4D…they know what you are talking about.

AGAIN, NEVER EVER BUT ALINEWARE!!! Their computer dont work, customer service doesnt care, managment says “your problem not ours, just count it as a loss.”

broadway phot/digital liquidators…etc are all scam artists.
    BEWARE!!!
Under no condition buy from them.

    1-They are imports/gray market
2-When you place your order they use high preassure sales tactics to get you to buy junk.
3-They leave out something like a ac adapter and sell that for $280+$200 for shipping
4-Regardless of what they say there is NO Us warranty.
5-If you place your order and buy nothing but the camera you will get an e-mail saying the item is out of stock and you have to wait 6 months.

    Buy only from auth dealers.

March 23, 2007 at 3:13 pm in reply to: Riot Gear

    I second that,

Even though I have not had chance to use the collection yet, or might not need for a few months, I think it’s important to support artists when they deliver such a high quality product for so cheap. If this collection was from artbeats and $800, I would wait until I needed it.But it’s only $49!!!.So dont go out to macaroni grill for dinner tonight and instead go BUY RIOT GEAR. This way I think it will give an incentive to people like andrew to keep giving us high quality, cost effective solutions.

March 23, 2007 at 3:05 pm in reply to: Best PC workstation for AE

    Hi everyone
I’m looking to set up a new PC workstation for AE and i really cant find a layout for the best system. Basiclly i need to answer questions like:

    Dual xenon or core2 duo?
    QuadX2+NucleoPro= best investment ever

Ram 3 gigs, i heard xp can’t use the 4th so what’s the point?
Winodw s will only see 3.5 Gigs max in 32bit mode.

What OS? i heard vista doesn’t work well with AE so should i stay with XP pro? should i go 64bit?

AE does not support 64 bit.

Are there any external plugin boxes that would help? For example i know AVID has one, modo i think. or is this over kill?

Avid has a EMP(external monitor preview) capability. If you have a adrenaline or a mojo you can use the hardware to view your AE work on a NTSC monitor.

If i want to do hd do i need an external hard drive stack?
I use 10000rpm on drives on the OS and 7200rpm raid 0 for video. The OS drive does help things pop-up a little faster. But dont expect miracles.

    IMPORTANT:
Unless you are a super computer GURU and dont need tech support, go with a company that services this industry with a smaller structure. I use boxx because when I call them they know what I am talking about plus they remmeber you and the problems. If you get dell, alienware, HP…etc It’s the long hold with the company directory and press this, choose that and start over with somebody new. Everytime. I personally reccomend boxx computers.

    Cheers,

  • I find Automatic duck very usefull and think it’s definetly worth the cost;but the most important thing to consider is that AD does not support MXF files, only XML and OMF. They will be upgrading soon I hope as all my material coming off P2’s is MXF. Also not every effect/plug in will transfer over form AVID or FCP to AE. For example color correction effects or the colorista 3rd party plugin will not be read.

Otherwise go for it, It has saved me hundreds of hours of work so far.
