PC for massive AE projects!
Posted by Dan_gerous on April 20, 2007 at 10:29 pmAnybody have any links for sites where they bought their custom PCs? I’ve got $3000 to spend and I’m looking for a machine that will be able to handle the most massive of After Effects and Cinema 4D projects. I’ve searched online for high end graphics PCs but have only found the typical commercial brands of PC that are nothing special. Theres got to be some sort of underground websites or brands that only the pros know about 😉

Have you also looked at having the machine built ? Find a shop in town that specializes in video. I had my machine built by a dealer here in Montreal. I found their name on the Avid site as a recommended reseller. Together we specced out the machine and then they built it….I couldn’t have been happier.

April 21, 2007 at 2:37 amThanks, those are great resources. I just discovered quad core processors, that blows my mind! You guys know if After Effects can even utilize a quad core machine?

April 21, 2007 at 10:03 pmNEVER EVER UNDER ANY CONDITION BUY ALIENWARE!!!!!!
I have horrible stories to tell about them that span a 7 month ordeal but I dont want write a 5000 word essay (I had to take them to court and WON…got my $7000 back.)
But I will %110 endorse BOXX computers, they are built for our field and due to the smaller stucture of the company you get better customer service. When you mention about AVID, after effects, Cinema 4D…they know what you are talking about.
AGAIN, NEVER EVER BUT ALINEWARE!!! Their computer dont work, customer service doesnt care, managment says “your problem not ours, just count it as a loss.”

April 22, 2007 at 3:18 pmI don’t know about Boxx or Alienware, but DELL has always been a favourite of mine. Their PCs are realiable (from my experiences) and customer service has been excessivly efficient for me.
