is this true…AG-HVX200 for 2,100 bucks???
Posted by Micah Ginn on April 24, 2007 at 4:17 amthis link popped up on google and offers a reduction from 5,999 to 2,100 for a brand new AG-HVX200…
https://www.thecamerapros.com/prodetails.asp?prodid=25070&gclid=CKzfm-a_2osCFRKsGgodalKobwalso, while googling, i have found the camera for 2,300 to 2,500…but then it’s 5k at B&H and other camera houses…
what’s the deal? is this the same camera? the specs all read the same, but I’m terrified that I”m missing something in the fine print, though I’ve not found it!
thanks for any advice you may offer. I really think this is a purchase I’m soon going to make, as I have a DVX-100a and really have enjoyed it.
I just don’t understand the huge price difference, and want to make sure that I’m buying what i think i’m buying.
thanks,
micah

April 24, 2007 at 5:15 amI doubt it is a reputable place. It’s common to find these deals but they usually mean that it is a gray market (No USA warranty) an they sometimes are misssing all of the normally included items (Battery, Charger, Cables, etc.) They will sell you a warranty and all this stuff separately but it usually ends up being pretty close to the same price as a good place like B&H or Adorama. My experience has been that it’s a lot less hassle to buy it right the first time.

April 24, 2007 at 5:27 amwell, i can’t see what is included in the purchase, but they do boast that the camera is brand new & comes with a 1 year, US warranty.
they do try to sell you several “packages” below it, featuring filters, tripods, extra-long batteries, carrying cases and so on.
this deal seems too good to be true, but with a 1 year warranty, it may be worth the gamble. I will call them tomorrow and find out what comes with the purchase.
thanks for you advice.

April 24, 2007 at 10:42 amThis is not a reliable place. Your warranty will be their warranty not a Panasonic warranty. Beware.
Do a resellerratings.com search of the vendor.

April 24, 2007 at 1:37 pmwhat is the cheapest place to find a new AG-HVx200? Cause there are several listed on the web in the 2,500 dollar range–but are they all unreliable?

April 24, 2007 at 3:02 pmI would bet that not one of them is reliable. They all operate the same way. Your best bet is to go to B&H. I think it is selling for $5195 right now which is a great price for that camera. You could try one of the pther places but you will quickly learn that if you are comparing apples to apples on what you get it will cost you about the same. Best of luck.

April 24, 2007 at 3:38 pmAnything under $5K USD is suspect.
Go to Panasonic’s web site, and find an authorized dealer near you.
Also, check resellerratings.com.
As I and others have stated, anything under $5K USD is suspect.

The Internet is full of outrageous claims. I hear you can buy an herb that’ll make your ***** grow an extra 3″ longer, and I also heard that a certain stock is set to “explode” in just a few days, and …
… it’s all a pack of lies. Absolute lies. Nobody anywhere is going to sell you a $5,995 camcorder for $2500. Unless it’s stolen. About the best you can do is around $5,000.

April 25, 2007 at 11:18 amThose websites scams are quite simple;
You call and order the camera for $2800, No waranty…shipping $400
They transfer you to the “confirmation” department; thats where the high pressure sales agent takes over.
They say there is no charger or battery inculeded. Add $400+$350 for shipping.
They add on US warrany+clening $600 and reccomend you get their extended coverage + $300.
NOW!!! try teling them you want only the camera and nothing else; they will harras you and if they cant get you to break they send you an e-mail saying the camera is out of stock and it will be 6 months before they get any units.
It is always a scam with those guys…dont risk your hard earned money.
goto http://www.bbb.org and check their reputation, digital liquidators, experss camera…etc they are all the same company with different names. You will notice they answer the phone by saying “how can I help you”, they never say the company name.
buy from BH,abel cine tech, filmtools…etc.

May 10, 2007 at 7:46 pmI have spent the last week calling each place I’ve found offering the Panasonic AG-HVX200 at a highly reduced price. It is really a buyer beware situation. I’m astonished at the way I have been treated when I ask for information beyond what I was able to read on the websites.
One of the worst experiences was at Banana Boat Cameras. When asking about what was included with the camera the fellow (who wouldn’t provide his name) told me an answer to my first question which was “Is this in stock”. When I asked again for what was included he yelled at me that he had already answered my question and “Yes, it is in stock!!!” and would I like to order now?
Finally I was hung up on after being placed on hold. I called back…
I was again treated with a violent attitude, this time by a fellow who told me he was a manager. I asked why he and the other fellow were so rude. He told me it was how they were trained (!).
I called the companies headquarters (NYC) and was told (in a whisper) by the girl answering the phone (she was really nice) that there were huge problems with the company, quite a few people were having big problems with never receiving their orders and never getting a refund and that I should really not spend any more time trying to speak with anyone because “…they really don’t care”.
A good deal might be out there, but I still haven’t found it. If someone does I would like to hear about it. For now, I’m still looking. My experience with the 20 or so places I’ve called leads me to believe the internet marketplace is replete with mental cases and thieves waiting like spiders for their next victim.
Be very careful… You really cannot get something for nothing. And if you’re wanting something as pricey and wonderful as the HVX200 it will certainly come – as even our lessons in life – at a price.
I hope this helps.
