Hi Earle,
Regarding low rez proxies, to render out a 640X320 of a 2K animation in a nested comp takes the same amount of time as pixel count is the same so the billing would not change BUT… to have mistakes is unacceptable. If I render out and there is a problem with animation I fix it ASAP with apologies to the client.
Normally I would recommend writing out a contract with errors and omissions clause but the easiest way is for you to change the people you work with. You should consider seeking animators who are used to working on remote projects and can deliver to client anywhere in the world, fast and accurately.
I can definitely recommend a few people like that, just send me an email from my website.
Good Luck

I own a BT-LH80 and love it. Very clean image, nice controls and very impact resistant (Dropped it hard a few times).
The only problem I have with it is very low light performance. You need a sun screen even indoors to see it easily.

When we shoot similar scenes we generally;
-remove all glass
-Green screen the background
-Shoot background plates to match angles
-Shoot reflection plates for glass
-Create glass in post add reflections
-Add vibration to the camera in post
-Add small particules for atmospheric effects (if needed)
-Color correction to match all shotsIf you shoot through the glass just remmember the front windshield is slightly blue and needs to be compensated to match other shots.
Hope this helps.

A company I rent from (with +5mil in inventory and 15 years of experience) just got hit by scam artists and lost a 200K camera package. Insurance did not cover them for the loss. They are out that amount.

February 6, 2008 at 2:56 pm in reply to: opening title sequence of the movie ContactIn my opinion the “Impossible steadicam shot” when young Joide Foster runs up the stairs to get her fathers medicine is one of the most creative design and storytelling I have seen in the last 10+ years. I love that movie and have probably have seen it 20 times.
But yes, money money money. Layers and layers of CG, compositing and creativity. They do explian in the original shot they used the young actress with contacts to match Jodie Fosters eye color for the pull out but she ended up looking like children of the corn. They went back re-shot the scene and created a CG face replacement.

Normally in a camera with a real iris you would target an f-stop or a t-stop and work with ND filters (or shutter, gamma…etc) to achieve a desire look. Since the HVX does not have a real aperture, I am aim for an f-stop for maximum sharpness. Now the 1/8 to 1/64 ND is a 2 stop decrease in exposure but I use a matte box with .3 and .6 ND filter to achieve the intermediate steps. That might be the solution you are looking for. Also using ND filters with Sky gradients is a good alternative.
Cheers,

If you are going to do green screen, HDX-900 is the only way to go. It has a 4:2:2 colorspace at 100mbs versus 4:2:0 colorspace at 35mbs.
