You CANNOT record simultaniously to the P2 and the DV Deck.

You CAN record to the FS-100 and P2 at the same time but they have to be the same format.

The only thing you CAN do different is that you can record720P 59.97 to P2 and 720P 23.976 to FS-100 at the same time.

I have tried to downconvert in the camera once where I recorded 720p 60fps to tape and it was letterboxed 4:3 format. (I think, it was a long time ago)

This is the cheapest of the matthews kits but works just as well. It’s also very portable and easy to set up. BUT you need to buy the Scrim separatly. It cames with diffusion, black and a few other things.

I take it everywhere. Matthews has exactly the same set up only thicker and stonger frame, it costs 2K more.

Are you talking of the “comfort arm” (one-piece arm) model or the “magic arm” (two-piece arm)? When was that bought? I will also browse the web for the varizoom and the glidecam.

I am also not sure if there are any training schools here in Manila, Philippines. There could be one in Cebu but that’s too far.

You’re right, it might be harder to find training there.

Sounds like a firmware issue. Try updating ot re-installing the firmware. If it does not work send it to panasonic.

Were you able to put it into VCR and PC mode before?

It works well in our PC’s, not with our MAC’s. Our Macs with 8.0.2 installed still does not import MXF. Any Ideas?

A Friend of mine bought the indian version and here are the problems I noticed;

-Weak response from the arm
-Excessive vibration
-Socket block was poorly placed
-No monitor
-Incorrect gimbal angle and ratio
-Arm Pin incorrect placement (Major mistake)
-Difficult dynamic balancing
-High friction gimbal
-No lower battery mount
-Low boom range
-No arm ride control (not spring tension)
-It squeaks

This is like comparing a Kia to a BMW. But you still need to get something that will work for your clients and budget.

The best units are;
-Steadicam (10 out of 10)
-Sacthler (8 out of 10)
-Glidecam (5 out of 10)
-the rest (let me know if I missed any major manufacturers)

Again, if you intend to do steadicam; you need to go to training(my reccomendation).

The two part articulating arm is better not because of more lift, but because of more range (or larger sweet spot).

The Indian made models are junk, not worth your money. Varizoom is also bottom of the totem pole. If you intend to do serious work but are not looking to make a huge investment go for steadicam flyer. Even though it’s 6K it’s in a league of it’s own.

The flyer is entry level for steadicam and it goes up all the way to 70K. But it’s worth it.

The most important thing to remember is if you wish to be a steadicam operator, you need to take classes.

Hello Luke,

First of all congratulations on your first reel….! This is my honest opinion, only meant to be constructive.

1-When I look at a reel I like to see something that I would not have thought of or could not do for myself. All the scenes are images that a motivated consumer can acquire by himself. It needs to have an edge that would drive people to your business. For example the shot with the ferry. I would have rented a simple jib for $100-$150 a day and filmed that with a small lift. A simple and common trick but it would immediately place you in a higher standing. Same applies to the other images as well, the motion the jib will provide you would really add dynamics. Same for the golfing shots.

2-I did not really care for the vignetting effect. It was too harsh and distracting.

3- Some images and sequences are too long: When I saw the crab images with the fake depth of field I thought It looked cool but then I saw another one and another one….Same with the diving footage. Your images need to have high impact (when appropriate) and kept tastefully short. I would have cut it as: 1st crab shot, cut to divers mask, cut to underwater shot of diver entering water, move to another subject. You would have to acquire maybe 10 times more material to make a reel but it would kick a**.

4- Take the fish spearing out. I don’t mind it, but somebody might.

5- I like your last shot of golfer and tree transition but after you zoom in to her lifting her hand you need to paint out her image in the background.

6-Your title should be at the end or end where your title shows. Because by the time the reel ended I had forgotten who it was.

Again congratulations on your reel and hopefully it will drive you good business.
