Shake will take pretty much anything you throw at it but compositing tends to work better with full quality image sequences, but it depends what you are working on.

And what’s up with the NTSC 720 x 480!!! I mean come on push the boat out and pick up a hundred more lines already!

Emma.
(as an interesting side note I recall some guy from Fuji Film quoted in the Guerrilla Film Makers hand book saying film makers should shoot at 25fps, just stoking the flames)

As I recall from my days with FCP4 the time remapping was pretty much hosed (much like media manager).
I use FCP 5.04 and the time remapping works ok for me although to be honest I think I’ve used it once. Overall FCP 5 gives a wider range of feature (like multi cam, rt-extreme, etc) but it’s still the same rock solid cutting station that it always was. The last time it crashed I think Nixon was still in the Whitehouse!

what you all really need to do is move to Europe and shoot 25p, it’s easy as pie, think about it, no more shooting/crossencoding/pulling/yanking/downconvert/upconvert/re-res/split-concat at 24.98723 fps, or whatever it is.
by the way, bad tv shows are still bad tv shows even if you shoot them in HD, you can just see how bad they are much more clearly is all.

create a new user and install FCP on that user. If it launches then it’s possible there is some conflict with a running process that is crashing out FCP. Shut down any widget programs that are running (that appear in your toolbar or run in the background on OSX) you can see them through Activity Monitor.

February 16, 2007 at 5:55 am in reply to: 4:3 movie as undistorted, uncropped widescreenif you want it to be consistent then slot the 4:3 into a 16:9. and either export or just run it right out through compressor.
sometimes the audio slips out of sync when run out of FCP through compressor though, that may just be on the PAL version minds you.

Also, exporting DV as Uncompressed is a waste of time since all your doing is adding more to the bitrate.
