Firewire can handle very high bit rates so video should play back just fine, what type of video is it (DV, HD, Uncompressed?) and what kind of Firewire drive are you running?

are you certain that the version you have is the Universal Binary? if not it won’t run because FCP doesn’t support Rosetta emulation.

Is it possible to burn the files to a Dual Layer disc?

you could also try a program called Split and Concat https://www.xs4all.nl/~loekjehe/Split&Concat/

this program, which is donorware, breaks down files into smaller chunks and will then rebuild them back into one file.

I think we’re interpreting Ripping here differently. Streamclip won’t rip protected DVD’s, some of the older work we produced is encoded to protected DVD so only Handbrake can do that.

If that’s the case they are very good at hiding that particular functionality.

The file permissions on the render directory may have gotten screwed up. Locate the render directory for the project and delete it. If you need what’s inside the directory then check the file permissions on the directory with the right click>get info.

The owner permissions should say that you can Read/Write if it doesn’t say that then the permissions need to be changed (not repaired, changed). If you are not an admin user on the machine then get the admin to sort it.

Streamclip doesn’t rip DVD’s, you can use Handbrake for that, also free.
