It will never look sharp. You can fool a unexperienced client by adding more blur on the border of the image, leaving the subject untouched by the blur and a little sharpened. This is a trick more than a technique and produces very poor quality images, so please forget what I told 😉

Unused plugins should not affect the performances… but if they occupy a lot of space in the HD they could slow down the entire system. I never fill the system HD more than 60%.
RAM/CPU/GPU are important but disk read/write speed is important too and affects the rendered/unrendered/effected/uneffectced clip playback.
In your case the bottleneck could be the HD performance. If you can, try a faster one.
Or maybe you are simply using too much or too heavy effects for your machine. -
Depends on the effects… Some filters are very GPU thirsty.
Besides a firewire drive may not be fast enought if editing big files. -
Select the point of connection between two audio clips and press cmt+T

Audio crossfade works exactly like secondary timeline transitions, i don’t see problems in that.

IMO you will be fine. I would recommend you more RAM and a faster HD (SSD or external RAID) -
My 2 cents:
-detach audio
-cut the portion of the video you want
-disable it pressing V -
That’s what I’ve done:
-Open the effect/transition/generator in Motion
-Save as..
-Create a new theme called “favorites” and saveNow you created the favorites theme: you can just change theme for the other effects in Motion/Project Proprieties (cmd+J)
