Simple cut, video only.
Posted by Dan Crouch on December 15, 2012 at 1:02 pmCan anyone help with this VERY basic question.
I simply need to cut a section of wobbly camera work out of a section in my sequence and leave a blank space to be filled in later. Is the only way to do, ‘detach audio’ then cut it with the blade?Seems a little laboursome.
Cheers,

Unfortunately, you can’t mute video only. It’s really weird.

December 15, 2012 at 1:38 pmYes.
Press control-s with the clip selected. This expands audio/video.
P chooses the position tool.
Trim the video only and it will leave a gap behind.

December 15, 2012 at 1:39 pmYou could also bring the opacity of that area in question down to zero. Or put a black generator connected to the area.

December 15, 2012 at 1:42 pmThanks for that,
I actually need to cut a chunk out of the middle of the clip, trimming is good but only if I want to get rid of stuff at the head or tail of a clip. Or am I being v stupid?Cheers,

December 15, 2012 at 1:55 pmIs the clip in the primary?
Cut the clip are the beginning of the area.
Then follow the steps above.
Basically, you are leaving the audio behind and replacing video with a gap.

December 15, 2012 at 2:33 pmHi Jari,
I am just trying to cut out a section of video and leave the audio intact. I have a tiny bit of camera wobble I want to cut out, then fill it in with b roll later.Shift delete takes out both audio and video.
Cheers,

December 15, 2012 at 5:35 pmPersonally I think you’re over thinking this. Just select a black generator from the generators tab and insert a connected clip of black over the section you want to remove. You plan on adding a different shot there eventually, so now you’ll have a clip, already the correct length that you can just replace with the replace edit when you find your new shot.
There’s no reason to actually delete the video only element of your initial clip.
