These “home made” P2 cards already exist…
https://www.psism.com/expusbhd.htm
Sure this models data rate is not fast enough but this clearly shows the concept. Not only would this be very easy to build but it would give a TON more storage at a fraction of the cost.

Also, whats stopping people from connecting a hard drive to a PC adapter?
Maybe you need a “smart drive” if your comming out of the firewire port, but if the camera thinks its writing to a P2 card you could attatch the hardrive to it. Why use the firewire port at all?
Im not an engineer but does this not sound simple to anyone else?

Speed is often given as a multiplier, such as 4x, 24x, 40x and 80x.
12x is about the slowest you see and 80x is the fastest. An 80x card should be able to write at a speed of 12 MB/s, a 40x at 6 MB/s and a 20x at 3 MB/s. Read speeds are usually similar.
The cards are only getting faster, so id imagine that by the time the camera is released there will be compact flash cards that will write a sustained data rate of 12MB/s with a little head room on top of that.

April 22, 2005 at 6:00 am in reply to: Have you guys ever thought of making HD vectorscopes at BMD prices?Fantastic idea!
I would buy one at “black magic price” in a second. Plus I love when black magic pisses off all the other companies by offering a superior product at 25% the cost!!
Having it in something like the HDLink where you can just plug it into any DVI LCD (and dare i say RCA for small cheap lcd monitors that you can mount on your cam) would be great! But be sure to add a firewire input with loop through so we could monitor everything from Dual link 4:4:4 all the way down to DVCPRO HD and HDV!

I havent triple or quadrupled my posts in this forum. I did in other forums and it was a mistake. The cow server was very busy on the NAB days and kept giving “could not connect to db” errors when I posted so I would repost thinking it didnt go through.
Quick note from me, it adds credibility to your post when you use your real name.

Hey uncompressed,
highly inappropriate post. As a professional in this industry Im excited about the arrival of new tools. My post was hardly a “serious” one. As AJA is one of, if not the leading company in its respective area of the industry, its noteworthy that they did not have any new tools or releases to showcase. Its also noteworthy that black magic design always remains one step ahead of AJA.
Thats all my post pointed out.. in a relatively light hearted manner i might add. Best of luck uncompressed.

P.S. You never know who your talking to on these forums and i suggest you remain respectful as this is whats led to the cow being the best forum for media professionals across the globe. You can deduct very little information about my “experience” in the industry based on my post so perhaps you should choose your words more carefully in the future.

I meant to say “nothing new from “AJA” in the title, oops.

Dynamic playback is adjusting the quality of the real time rendering on the fly (depending on the complexity of your sequence). So in real complex parts with multiple layers and such, realtime playback will slow down to say 10fps and then when it gets through that part it will resume full speed. So you no longer have to choose your render preview quality, FCP handles the throttle.
FCP 5 does not handle multiple formats in the same timeline without the need to render so this would be a decklink only feature (as it was with the cinewave). Sounds great though!
