You capture at 23.98 and use cinema tools to perform the pulldown.

Thanks Jon, I think Im going to get my company to upgrade to 4 so I can do this.

    One more question…

When I set it up as you described, how can i rotate the axis of the entire circle AND its path together? Currently if i rotate the axis of the text, it rotates alright but its path stays put, so now it circles in this weird undulating motion. Id like the path to be locked to the normal of the text object. Any ideas?

yes this is exactly what i want to do. However, I just realized that I was running the demo of pro animator 4 and the company i work for only has a license for v. 3. What are the steps to achieve this in v. 3? If I recall, v 3. cannot distrubte around a cylinder ?

Apples Fibre card is not so great. ATTO has 4Gbit cards but as you pointed out, no drivers. ATTO works fairly quicly so you can be sure they will have drivers in a few months.

Black Magic already offers PCIe versions of the decklink line, their new multibridge is PCIe, ATTO has several PCIe Fibre controlers, and i believe they have some SCSI PCIe controlers as well but Im not sure. There are already plenty of options available. It will be interesting to see how quikly Aja can respond. They arent known for their fast engineering.

I seventh the idea of a DVD. and as Haakon suggested, rather than filming a live training seminar, a seperate recording for the DVD would be in order. There is certainly something to be said for actually being at a real seminar, but as others have suggested, its not only the cost of the siminar but the cost of air travel and accomidations. And ofcourse the DVD is much more convienent. Im always surprised companies dont provide more training material for their products. I would put a DVD in every HVX-200 box, but thats just me. Anyway, great to see your thinking of these things Jan.

The HVX cannot control the firewire drive. That is why a firestore type device will be needed. So yes, you will absolutely need a computer to interface with any hard drive (ipod or otherwise.) Using an iPod as storage for the HVX is nothing short of, well… dumb. If your in a pinch it could be a life saver but otherwise youd be much better off getting a much larger firewire 400/800 hard drive which will be much faster and much cheaper.

You cant plug them directly into macs like you can on a PC… Jan says this is an apple issue and they are working with them to resolve it.

  • Yeah- its called finalcut pro. 🙂

You can do some of the DV Rack functionality with the built in finalcut scopes but no, there is no Mac counterpart to DV Rack.

I never intended to insult Panasonic and I hope it was not perceived that way. I think they have done a truly amazing job with this camera and I will be buying one or two when they are released. I also have a firm understanding of P2 and its pricing. My opinion has been stated regarding that matter so no need to repeat it. However Id like to note that Ive mentioned several times that I think Panasonic has priced P2 reasonably appropriate. Id like to mention how much I personally appreciate the manufacturers themselves posting on the boards. I told Jan today how much I, and we (the collective cow) appreciate her efforts to answer questions. The HVX-200 is still the most revolutionary camera in my book and my sincerest apologies If ive offended anyone.
