Maybe your iPods are more stable than mine (although I have to admit my ipods have taken quite a few spills) but the small drives are not the most rugged of devices. Of course this is still great news!! And Im sure there will be other devices that will handle capturing better than an iPod.
Oh and hopefully the firewire cable will have some way to stay securely fastened. Because if its a 4 pin connector like on the DVX, i wouldn’t feel very confident about having the cable stay put.
Oh and Doug, the likelihood of an uncompressed data stream coming out of the firewire port is slim to nonexistent. But that is something that could possibly be changed by a firmware hack… whos ready to break their new $6,000 camera??

Hey Luis,
I assume the signal comming out of the firewire port is the same one being sent to the P2 cards. Firewire is just a pipe for data, it doesnt need to conform to any specifications that a tape format would. You can send any kind of data you want down that pipe and theres no reason for them to transfer a pulldown to the hard disk recorder (unless ofcourse there was a manual option to turn this on- which wouldnt make much sense to me)

Hey guys, i was using bable fish to translate the feed, i just looked at the original french version and it reads:

Uh oh, i think the guys phone may have crapped out.

That was comming from the apple press event still going on now but, they are done with the Panasonic cam. But atleast we know how much the thing is now!!
Very reasonable at $6,000 but it is still yet to be known what media this comes with and how much the P2 cards will be!
I wasnt expecting a tape drive but what else could “p2 format and cassette FD” mean?

Is that what he was saying, i was having trouble figuring that one out.
Damn!

“P2 format & cassette FD”
Im getting this off a Frech RSS feed so the translation is a little sketchy but it says P2 AND cassette

April 17, 2005 at 6:59 pm in reply to: Feature DV Film + 24p DVCAM + Film Transfer = TONS of QuestionsWell youve got alot of questions there… Ill answer a few and some others can chime in after me…
First off, if it was most likely not shot with the DVX100 becuase the DVX100 doesnt use DVCAM tapes it uses MiniDV tapes. The DVX100 does indeed “flag” frames when shooting in 24p or 24pa mode (as do all tape based recorders).
FCP can handle these flagged frames very gracefully. You are able to capture ONLY the flagged frames and edit in a 24p timeline and it will reintroduce the pulldown on the fly when viewing to an NTSC monitor. 24pa is best used when creating a 24p DVD or when doing a film out. 24p regular is best used to create the 24p “look” when being displayed on an NTSC monitor.
Ill be back to answer more laters if others dont… there are big apple announcements going on right now, have to read some!
