As a reformed web designer myself 😉 unless u have very specific, bespoke needs I think there’s a lot to be said these days in using a css driven template type site such as squarespace (squarespace.com).
Sites built in this way really are the way to go; the old days of paying someone to bash out a hand coded site are dead IMHO. Services such as squarespace are easy to update, use solid templates, allow easy creation of blogs, video, photogalleries… and in short you avoid/mitigate many of the issues raised by Chris.
Even if you think you need a designer to help choose a layout/colour scheme etc – Id still use this system and get them to work within it; they way you can pay for a good designer who may not have HTML skills rather than paying a designer and a coder or trying to find someone to do both…
Anyway, check out some of there examples;

hmmm – thanks for the fps tip and the gratuitous, slightly patronising portion of dogma 😉

March 26, 2009 at 12:15 pm in reply to: FCP workflow basics; labelling/organising selected shotsI learnt from an editor friend that if you have the space then this is the easiest way to work – saves chopping and changing tapes and allows you to view the footage faster and more intuitively than through a deck… which to be honest has been my experience, well from the limited experience I have…
but thanks, I greatly value another perspective and shall look into what you’ve said,

Hi all,
so ive finally managed to extrude my illustrator splines and create a simple extruded logo with some materials, now i need help sprucing it up a bit as its rather “flat”; just a simple extrude with caps to soften the edges…
I would really like to put some more detail onto the whole object, how to i create much softer, rounded surfaces rather than flat extruded caps? of course i can push/pull points but im sure there must be an easier way?
Ive messed about with bulge, bend etc but no real joy 🙁

v much like the little ive seen from c4d – but this seems to be one thing that could be improved 🙁

“More like a few days.” Well I was aware that it would take some months to master, but I wasnt planning on spending the whole time screaming… Anyway I count my hours in base 28 :p
..but, just how steep is this learning curve? Something tells me theres a fundamental flaw in structure of the program if its really that difficult…
Anyway, thanks guys, best I get on with it, cant sit around here chatting, tho’ Im really pleased to have gotten so much feedback from one post…
