There is a way to then treat the first frame with a filter, with “record action” on in photoshop, and then drop all of the frames from the folder into that action set (or create a droplet…or if you are running Tiger, I think you could use automator for this too).

Interesting. Walter, I was wondering how long ago Aja changed over from BMD codecs. Did they do it with the Kona 2? You were not using Aja products before they switched? Also, I have always wondered about the Apple 10bit uncompressed codec…seeing that pretty much every third party card has it’s own codecs. You said that the Kona sometimes uses the Apple codec; when does it use that, and why does it use it instead of their own?
So many questions. Sorry.

How do the Aja codecs compare to the BMD codecs? This is kind of a bummer, seeing that our whole company pretty much renders out BMD 10bit, and it would be a real pain to get everyone to switch over. I guess, Kona TV was not meant to be for me. Unless, you guys think that there is an advantage to the Kona codecs.

I have a Kona card (not Kona 2) and the Quicktimes are 720×486 Blackmagic 10bit.

Do you have a lot of clips in different resolutions? If you only have a few 8 bit clips, then what I would do is export the 8 bit clips at 10bit either from FCP or from QT pro, and then bring those clips back into the project and work on a 10bit timeline…this way you will not have to keep rendering, because your new clips are now 10bit rather than 8bit.

Most jewelry is very reflective…and reflection is not good when keying. I would probably use something like After Effects and roto the jewelry (which would probably be much easier than rotoing most things due to its constant and geometric shape. You can key out any color using the “color key” filter and you can also use the “mask choker” filter and “mask feather” filter in addition to the key filter (found in the matte folder). I must say though, I really do not like FCP’s keying capabilities…Primatte is great.
