Looks like a great book Rafael. It is from 2004. Do you know if he is going to make a updated version? It sounds like I could still learn quite a bit from it but it would be nice to have something current.

I read some bad stuff about Transcend cards from the reviews at Newegg. I had already bought 3. I ended up PNY class 4 16GB for my HX10 but that is not your case.
One of the reviews was that the guy shot footage and 3 months later when he went to use it the card was dead.
I just bought two of these Class 6 PNY Optimas for my Canon HX10 (actually mine were class 4).
Take a look at these reviews on Transcend media at newegg. 16GB class 6 with reader (still relevant) and 16GB class 6
If you are going to really want a good card you may want to just get a SanDisk as they have a great reputation.

Thanks Rafael,
For some reason (user error) when I exported my DV Sequence to ProRes the other day and it upsized it to HD. I just went to export it again and the resolution was a bit higher than DV, I cancelled and reset the timeline arrow and when I went to the settings dialog it was DV.
Dunno what I was doing but I think I determined what was “causing” the problem. Me.
Cheers Rafael!

I just found out that the $25 does not give you access to the “exercise/lesson files”. They want $375/year for that. Probably still a great deal but maybe I will wait for approval before I make that impulse buy :).

Hey Thomas,
I just checked out Lynda.com. It is coincidental that I was almost going to post some articles by Larry Jordan I just found but didn’t want to overwhelm my post.
So I go to Lynda.com and it says it is $25 per month!!!
Then I pull up FCP 6 to see what they have. I see a FCS 2 keying tutorial and it is by… Larry Jordan!

I watched it and it was very good! I think I am gonna definitely get a membership there too!
Thanks for the tip!

I am using a 28″ Hanns G we bought from Newegg next to a little 19″ dell. We paid nearly $600 for the 28″ but I just saw it on Newegg last week for $350 with free shipping! They went back up to nearly $400 without shipping last week though. $350 total for a 28″ 1920 x 1080 monitor is an amazing deal!
Anyways, I am still learning but as far as editing real estate I would recommend getting two of these and hooking them up to your new 8 core!
I plan on having 8 of these someday soon!

I just bought the iTunes version of Steve Martin’s “Final Cut Pro: Getting Started” and I really love it! He is a very good teacher! I really liked that I could just download them and start learning too! I am only on lesson 6 right now but I was very happy that I decided to purchase DVD studio Pro tutorial too!
I don’t find many people that are good teachers but Steve is one of them! You can view a bunch of free tutorials at his website too. One thing I also like about his tutorials is that he does offer consulting services if I ever need them.
I just ordered Shane Ross’s “Getting Organized in Final Cut Pro” too. I also plan on ordering to order Barry Green’s “Sound for Film and Television”. There is another user here who has a sound book, something like Gorilla Audio?, that looked pretty good.
I figure if I can pick up one just one really helpful tip or trick for $50 it is probably worth it!
I would definitely recommend starting with Steve Martin’s stuff. He is very good!

January 11, 2009 at 9:00 am in reply to: HDV clips in DV timeline – Doesn’t scale properly?Hey Nick,
I just made a new sequence and applied an DV NTSC Anamorphic easy setup to it. I dragged a HDV clip from the other open project into the timeline. It automatically applie a scale to 50% and a aspect ratio correction to 12.5 BUT left out the shift fields filter. So, I undid that and imported one of the clips to the bin. I dragged it into the timeline and it did all of the above PLUS a shift fields filter.
So I am guessing something happened with the since there were mixed sequences in the same project. I will manually go through the DV sequence and reapply the shift fields filter but don’t know what to do about the scaling issue.
It sure would be much nicer if Apple lived up to the hype of it’s marketing department.
ps. Thanks for the shift+z tip on fitting canvas/viewer to window!

Hi Michael,
Do you mean the Raylight decoder?
If this is the case then that would be good to know! I may be getting a HPX-170 sometime soon.
