Nice, I just added you to my “film” circle.
I found Graeme Nattress too! – https://plus.google.com/u/1/108800114237988444877

[Jeremy Garchow] “If the frame rate is set to half, it will playback half the frames, regardless of frame rate.”
I think I get it now, your original comment could have been, “check to make sure the frame rate is not set to half”. That makes perfect sense now and I will be sure to check that next time I am at the studio!!!
Thanks Jeremy!

Right but assuming that everything is set to full frame and quality and I have my sequence fully rendered, how would having an output to a reference monitor be better other than color grading?

FCP cannot edit with anything but .mov files. The standard workflow is to first convert the .m2t files to prores via log and transfer, eats up massive disk space and is a sobering reality. But the quality is awesome!!!

If the sequence is fully rendered, how would that affect 23.98 progressive?

[Baljot Bhatti] “So I’m making a short movie (fictional) about a crew of people who are trying to make a movie. I wanted to combine clips from the actual movie they are making – which would be 24p – and then the mockumentary part of it – which would be 30p – into one cohesive final project. I know enough about FCP that I can only output at one framerate, and that any 24p clips placed in my timeline would end up being converted to 30p (or the other way around).
Is there either a way to work around this, or make it so the 24p clips wouldn’t be harshly degraded when they’re converted, or do I have to bite the bullet and just pick a framerate?”

Hi Baljot,
This thread is relevant to what you are asking. From what I gather, you should pick a target framerate and set your sequence to that and then convert the non-target framerate to the target framerate via compressor and ProRes. You will save yourself some headache! It will cost you diskspace but I think it is worth it in my opinion. Maybe this won’t be necessary with FCP X but it is right now.

[Gavin Hinfey] “Now the reason I ask is that Avid can switch between 23.98 and 29.97 quite easily applying the correct pull down so as there is no loss of sync.”
FCP doesn’t do the pulldown correctly. I just had this same issue here and Joseph Owens gave a great explanation of how FCP deals with pulldown, which isn’t pretty btw, but it is very educational!
