Do keep in mind that those speeds were achieved with a 6Gb/s SATA controller card. Your own Mac Pro probably has a 3Gb/s controller, which cuts the throughput in half. Some of the oldest MPs may have just a 1.5Gb/s controller, which delivers only 25% of the throughput.

Well, of course the right gear is required. What else is new?

PCIe 2.0 6Gb/s Atto card, but still, 500MB/sec OFF OF ONE DISK. It’s all in the article.

A subsequent 6Gb/s raid enclosure and the proper connectors would be screaming fast. Or perhaps a TBolt connection to TBolt enabled 6Gb/s enclosure.

    Sweet!
