July 29, 2011 at 12:31 am in reply to: resolution limitation of mapping Serpentine 3D layered Comp onto a Zax 3D sphereHi Alan,
In the title of the post, you mentioned that you were mapping the comp onto a “Zax 3D Sphere”. Are you working with Invigorator or ProAnimator? If so, I’m not sure I understand what you mean when you mentioned the “0,1 detail under Best quality”. If you’re using another effect, this effect may be what is causing the image to look pixelized when you zoom in with the camera.
If you are using ProAnimator/Invigorator, you can try applying the Pre-Comp as a Layer Map. Then apply the Layer Map as a Material onto the Sphere. With a huge layer, this should keep the image looking sharp.
If you’re still having issues, please send the project to me at ed@zaxwerks.com. I’ll take a look at your project file and your setup.

Hi Cliff,
I’m sorry to hear about the crashes you’re running into for version 5.0.6. Are you working on a Mac or Windows machine? Also, what version of After Effects are you using right now?
If there are certain steps that are causing the crashes, please send me the project file and the steps to reproduce the crash. My e-mail address is ed@zaxwerks.com
If you are trying to finish a project, you can try reverting back to version 5.0.5 and see if this works better for you. Below is the download link for version 5.0.5:

Hi Johnny,
Invigorator PRO version 5.0.5 has a display issue where it only displays 3 digits instead of 4. So, if you set a value of 4000, it won’t show all 4 digits. Version 5.0.6 contains a fix where it shows more digits.
Download version 5.0.6 from our download page below:
https://zaxwerks.com/downloads/You should have no issues creating the floor planes from the virtual set tutorial with version 5.0.6. If you’re still having any issues, let me know.

Hi Alan,
Thanks for the update. I haven’t ran into an issue before where the text layer would conflict with the Serpentine layer.
We’ll keep an eye on this. Thanks for all the information.

Hi Mark,
ProAnimator version 5 was released recently. This version contains many new features such as customizable workspaces, an integrated drawing window, noise & gradient shaders, object deformations, and more!
Currently, ProAnimator FX is at version 4.9.1 and does not yet contain the new features that are in ProAnimator 5. We are working on a conversion to get ProAnimator FX working in Motion 5. Once that version is released, it will contain all the new features of ProAnimator 5.
Aside from the new features, you won’t be missing anything from the standalone version. You’ll still be able to create virtual sets, and other types of effects from the standalone version.
Hope this helps.

Hi Kevin,
I just sent you the beta version of Invigorator PRO version 5.0.6. Please let me know if you are still running into the same issues.

Hi Jim,
I just sent you an e-mail containing the 5.0.6 beta. Please check the e-mail and let me know if you are still running into any issues.

Hi Jimmy,
When does the crash occur? Is it when you are just selecting the layer, or is it selecting the layer and adjusting the levels/hue+sat that is causing the issue?
We are close to releasing version 5.0.6, which contains many new bug fixes, so once that version releases, you can try using that version and see if it helps with the issue you’re running into.

Hi Jimmy,
We currently do not have depth of field built in, so as mentioned in your post, the workaround for now is to use Blur effects to create the same effect.

Hi Alan,
You can try opening the Film Reel example project to see how the texture map is set up. You can find the project file in the “Path Examples” folder. The example project is called “reel_path.aep”.
From your description, it sounds like the map you are using is too small. If you are using 1×30, then that one pixel is stretched quite a bit! You may want to consider using a map size of 300 x 500. Then you can just set the repeat once and it will fill up the entire film reel.
Hope this helps.
Best,
Edward
