It might – definitely can’t hurt. I’ve seen a variety of things reported. For example, a particular model of drive may work for one person but not another indicating something in the two machines is different. Another reported problem is that it may burn +R but not -R (or the other way around). Then again, for some people it may work in all cases. Of course there’s always the drives that are not supported as well.

In my case, it seems that DVDA will burn to both of my drives so I haven’t had an issue of that nature. I HAVE burned at times using a different program (such as Record Now or Nero). I see no problem using a separate program. I look at it this way:

1) DVDA is good at preparing DVD content. Let it handle all of that.
2) A burning program is good a burning. Let it handle all of that.

I wouldn’t. That can INCREASE your render time. For example, if you put a still on the timeline 30 seconds long and render that with it set to zero, it will take a fair amount of time as each frame will be rendered individually even though nothing has changed. If you up it to even 1 meg, it will render the first frame and the zoom through the remaining 30 seconds. I’ve found the default of 16 meg to work well for me. I can see making it smaller but would not reduce it to zero.

I looked at the VCD you sent. It was interesting. Saw what appeared to be one rough edit (around 1:05??? – going from memory)

They haven’t compromised anything. I’m still rendering at the same bitrates I used for projects in DVDA1, 2, and 3. I guess if the project was really close, DVDA3 may make something just a fraction larger that might put it over – can’t rule out the possibility. However, where are you seeing this size differenc? After preparing the DVD and checking the size of the folder it creates? The estimated size reported by the project?

If you’re looking at the estimated size, it’s frequently incorrect (often over-estimates). Instead try preparing the disc and seeing how large the resultant folder actually is.

Definitely give it a check. It *may* be a new feature of version 2. I got to meet the creator of that program at NAB and it just took moments to create a path. He even added an airplane to the front of the line so the line appeared behind the airplane. Any shaped path could be created.

Now that the DVD has been prepared, try the actual “burn” process with some other program. Many people use DVDA to author and prepare the DVD and then use something like Nero or Record Now to do the actual burning.

If you don’t mind spending a little bit of money, Heroglyph has this funtionality built-in.

Do it the same way. Just put photos on the timeline instead of AVI’s (or render the photos to an AVI and use that).

Render it out to WMV format. Pick a bitrate that gives you a suitable size. You might try starting around the 512 mark and then go higher or larger depending on the resulting file size.
