If File – Import – DVD Camcorder Disk won’t work in 6.0c, I’m not sure.

No. Those are “sub titles” – not true closed captioning.

  • [Wayne Grauel] “The problem with the dsr 30 started after capturing footage with vegas (which it worked fine then…) , came back one morning and DSR-30 was sitting there in pause mode for God knows how long.”

Upon finishing an “Advanced” batch capture, Vegas drops the deck into “Pause” mode after the last clip is captured. Many people have complained about this over the years. I use a Panasonic AG-DV2000 deck and it will automatically drop out of pause mode after a few minutes (I think 5) for me. Some other decks, such as the Sonys, do not appear to do this.

Once you’ve cleaned the heads and the video is displaying correctly, I see no reason why it would not work for capture. You might try a full reboot of all devices and try it again. Also, if you’re on Vegas 6, you might make sure you’re on 6.0c which fixed some issues with Sony decks.

[leslie wand] “a. any software that will play avi’s out to monitor directly?”

Scenalyzer Live will do this via firewire. Technically so will Vegas Vidcap. The Capture program will accept AVI’s and send them out via firewire.

[leslie wand] “b. output mpg’s (as above), using say, power dvd?”

Power DVD may do it via a video out on a video card but I don’t know of anything that will do it via firewire without converting it to DV first.

Yes, I have been capturing with Vegas 6. For a basis: I’m using Win XP SP1 capturing from my deck. Vidcap has been working fine here.

If you mean real closed captioning, Vegas does not do that. You need to hire that done through a firm that performs that service.

There is NO problem capturing in Vegas 5 and editing in Vegas 6. However, if the Vegas 5 capture works, the Vegas 6 capture should work as well. You should definitely be on Vegas 6.0c

Well… opening more than one instance requires more resource than a single instance. Are you rendering in one instance while working in the second? If yes, the disk access could be the culprit. As for rendering, it does not take that much memory for a normal render. However, there were some memory issues when using large photos which was improved in 6.0c.

As long as the MPEG2 files are DVD compliant and small enough, I can’t see how the source file would have anything to do with it. There HAS to be something else going on other than the source files. Whatever the case, you do NOT want MPEG2 recompressed to MPEG2 because of the quality hit you will get.
