Looking back, i used the dsr 30 for capture as i was trying the system (use the media 100 alot!).

The problem with the dsr 30 started after capturing footage with vegas (which it worked fine then…) , came back one morning and DSR-30 was sitting there in pause mode for God knows how long.

At that point the heads had developed a clog and I needed to clean the machine. I got it to play (to the eye) but it obviously impacted the heads because the machine will not communicate with the computer for required dv data. (communitacion failure) – In other words, the machine has not been right since!.

So. as I see it, Vegas totally Mucked up my tape machine , which I am not happy about.

AS I see it, there are a some “little” things about vegas that keep it seperated from the big leagues in time line issues (compared to work flow issues and speed of editing) with other established systems as well as the obvious bugs like this that have been permitted to slide through even until Version 5…. .

Then there are things about Vegas that are impossible to do with some other big league systems in the speed and simplicity you can do them in vegas… I know each system will have strong points and nothing is perfect for each person, but Bugs do bother me!

It’s just too bad that Sony Software division does not look at the right hand to see how they can better integrate with their broadcast systems (like keeping a perfectly good tape machine in pause mode forever thus trashing the heads)…. in my book this is just plain neglect or indifference to addressing basic operational issues.

Rigth now i have to use my DSR 390L Camera until i can get my dsr 30 fixed. You can sure bet i set a timer on my watch so this Bug does not trash a perfectly good camera!

Can anyone tell me if Sony had enough negative feedback on this issue to resolve it in V 6 as I still have V5.

    Thanks
    Wayne

Upon finishing an “Advanced” batch capture, Vegas drops the deck into “Pause” mode after the last clip is captured. Many people have complained about this over the years. I use a Panasonic AG-DV2000 deck and it will automatically drop out of pause mode after a few minutes (I think 5) for me. Some other decks, such as the Sonys, do not appear to do this.

Once you’ve cleaned the heads and the video is displaying correctly, I see no reason why it would not work for capture. You might try a full reboot of all devices and try it again. Also, if you’re on Vegas 6, you might make sure you’re on 6.0c which fixed some issues with Sony decks.

why doesn’t the sony 30 have a time out on PAUSE ??
i capture on a panasonic 2000 deck , canon GL1 camera, canon elura camera and they time out of pause using Vegas ..
so perhaps some %%% of mucked heads rest with sony for letting their product stay in pause for XXXX days .. if i remember correctly the sony drs 40 times out of pause mode so perhaps it sony consumer products that don’t time out ??
