If you’re only output format is SD DVD, I’d leave the project at SD. Because of the higher resolution, you can actually zoom in and pan the footage without losing any quality.

If you’re wanting both HD and SD output, set up the project as HD, edit as needed, and then do a final SD render for that part.

You can change the project settings mid project but you may need to do some adjustments so that everything properly matches.

Actually, they are loaded at whatever volume they are. There are numerous things you can do. Sounds like you’re using the track level volume slider at this time. There’s also a “volume envelope” which can be applied to tracks to provide variable volume adjustment throughout the track.

Then you have other tools at your disposal. For example, the normalize option will raise the volume of the clip so that the loudest point is the volume level you specify. Then you have effects you can add effects such as compressors to also help raise and level out volume levels.

If you’re in Vegas Pro 8, you can download my “Auto Save” custom command and it will automatically give you a series of date/time stamped backups. You can specify how often you want it to back up and it will give you up to two backup copies each time.

Can you convert it some other way? For example, if you hook up the beta disk to a camera and convert it to a standard format Vegas can more easily capture then you could just capture via firewire.

If you right-click it, go to Properties, and then go to the “General” tab, the date/time the footage was recorded is shown in the “Capture” section. So… the information *IS* there.

For the projects I do, a “single piece” could be anywhere from 2 minutes or 1 hour or so.

First of all, I turn OFF “auto ripple”. I don’t want things moving without me knowing about it. Secondly, I usually break the project up into pieces and then combine all the pieces into a “Final” project.

Select one or the other. Press “U” (which will “ungroup” them).

1. which changes the playback rate slowing the clip down and makes the event itself longer on the timeline.

2. which will reset the playback rate so the event plays at normal speed but will NOT change the length of the event. If you want the event length to change, you’ll need to either CTRL-drag it back to 1.00 (it DOES snap at that location) or use a script (for example, Excalibur will set the playback rate to whatever you want and adjust the length of the event to match)
