  • Can I change Project Size after starting to edit?

I have HDV .m2t files that I added to a Sony Vegas 7 project with settings: 720×480 (My final output will be to DVD)

Now I’m hearing that for best video quality I should have my project set to 1440×1080 (that’s what my Canon HV20 captures) and leave those 1440×1080 dimensions while editing until finally exporting and burning to DVD.

    My questions:

    1) Am I losing significant video quality by working in 720×480 project size from the start?

    2) Can I change Vegas 7’s project size once I’ve started? (I’ve done way too much editing to start from scratch with a larger 1440×1080 project size)

Thank you for any info you can provide! I’m pretty confused about how to maximize workflow for best video quality from start to finish to burn to DVD

If you’re only output format is SD DVD, I’d leave the project at SD. Because of the higher resolution, you can actually zoom in and pan the footage without losing any quality.

If you’re wanting both HD and SD output, set up the project as HD, edit as needed, and then do a final SD render for that part.

You can change the project settings mid project but you may need to do some adjustments so that everything properly matches.
