If you’re not getting good WMVs out of F4M, you’re doing something wrong or something’s screwed up
with your system or software. WMVs from F4M are indistinguishable from any other WM9 files that I’ve encoded.

AJA says in the IO manual that the IO uses so much of the FW bandwidth that you shouldn’t use FW drives attached to
the FW800 port at the same time you’re using the IO (the FW400 and FW800 ports use the same bus). Walter and others
have used FW800 drives with their IO with no problems. I think AJA is trying to eliminate any potential bandwidth issues
by making a conservative statement, but I follow their advice just to be sure.

If you’re looking for a better solution than FW though, the Seritek SATA card is a Express 3/4 card with 2 SATA ports:

AJA says you can’t have *anything* sharing the FW bus. It uses all the throughput of a FW400 bus.
G5 FW ports, all of them, FW400 and 800, use one bus.

I just found out. This diagram of the MacPro architecture hsows it to be an ATA100 bus.

[new 2 mac] “I haven\’t been able to have anyone at Apple support give me an answer to this question so I\’ll turn to you. I am looking at purchasing an intelmac MacBook, Core Duo at 1.83GHz, 1 gig memory with 60GB hard drive. I am also purchasing a 100GB external drive. Do you know if this new system would be able to run Final Cut Pro2. I have heard that old software my not work on the new systems.
