Ok, so now you need to provide more info. What does “horizontal” mean to you?
Do you mean the typical stairstep, scisoor-like jagged edges? Or do you mean actual
horizontal lines? What you’re describing sounds like the usual, interlaced video.

As the other post said, you can sue for anything. But assigning a value to a tape will be pretty hard.
Were there any other shooters at the event? Maybe an audio recording? Any still photographers?
Is there a participant who can recap on camera the part of the event that was lost, using photos
of the event or b-roll that your editor *does* have? We had a similar thing happen years ago, where a camera operator mistakenly stopped recording and didn’t realize it. We pieced together all the other
footage and recreated one small part. No one knew outside the edit suite.

Reverb and echo are slightly different things. Some sources say echo is a 35ms delay evenly spaced, and reverb is a delay less than
35ms, randomly spaced. An echo will be easier to fix (somewhat). Try using a noise gate filter. Take some room tone from elsewhere in the
audio clip to fill in the newly created dead spots. Hard to make go away entirely, but it will help a lot.

Not 100% on this, but if you’re the one serving the videos, there’s no risk of viruses either way.
If you’re the viewer, I think there are viruses that can infect either, but they have to come from the
one serving the videos.
No quality issue, you’ll have to wait longer for a high quality progressive DL to start than a lower quality one,
but the progressive DL will start sooner than the DL video in any case.

That didn’t really “clarify” anything for Raj. Since he didn’t say in his post what his
capture settings were, we have no idea what his format/codec is or whether he captured with compression or not.
For example, we capture Beta in Uncompressed 8bit all the time (the best setting for it). When we want to export
the highest quality image, we export as Uncompressed, an actual uncompressed file. 🙂
So Raj, to clarify differently 🙂 , if you’ve captured using a codec like DV or DVCPro50, then export with
the same settings (use current settings). If you’ve captured uncompressed then export uncompressed
(unless you don’t have the disk space and you’re willing to take a hit in image quality). As for the UC QT size
below, just to *clarify* that too: An uncompressed 8bit 720×486 QT is not 2.5G for every 5 minutes, at 20MBs it’s more like
6 gigs.

[eriqneedshelp] “Just to clarify. You don’t want an actual “Uncompressed” QT. You want a QT with the same compression rate that FCP uses to import footage. An uncompresed QT is about 2.5 gigs for every 5 minutes (Believe). You want something that is about 1 gig every 5 minutes. Right?

To do that, you go to file=>export =>”Quicktime Movie…” thats will give you a large QT file, equivalent to your FCP footage. Make sure you check the “make self-contained” box before you export.”
