December 22, 2006 at 8:49 pmBe more specific. Do you mean Progressive downloading or
completely downloading before playing? Streaming is great
for serving lots of people at one time. Progressive DL is good
for putting video on your own HTML site (not paying for a streaming
server). Regular DL is for transferring files and doing the crossword
puzzle while you wait for the download.

Is there the same risks to viruses from downloading and progressive downloading a file? Is the quality of the file limited in a progressive download?
Thanks

December 31, 2006 at 4:16 pmNot 100% on this, but if you’re the one serving the videos, there’s no risk of viruses either way.
If you’re the viewer, I think there are viruses that can infect either, but they have to come from the
one serving the videos.
No quality issue, you’ll have to wait longer for a high quality progressive DL to start than a lower quality one,
but the progressive DL will start sooner than the DL video in any case.
