April 20, 2008 at 11:39 pm in reply to: SHANE: MXo2 and what kind of monitor?

The MXO2 has blue gun for proper calibration, so you should get pretty good calibration of a plasma like the Panny. I’m a little disappointed that it did away with the MXO’s DVI support. It does have Component and HD-SDI, but one of the biggest features of the MXO was its ability to properly calibrate a DVI monitor (Apple and Dell being the 2 biggies).

    [Rafael Amador] “Hi Ed,
    >>>i guess there are people in the world that use FC to editing pornography or even pro-terrorist videos. The Cow don’t ask what kind of footage the posters work with.<<< Well, here in the U.S., and many other countries, it's perfectly legal to edit porn (even pro-terrorist videos to a certain extent). You may have a moral objection, but that would be your own personal issue, not a legal one. [Ed Dooley] ". If he explained why he wanted to do it" >>>Walter have nothing to explain. if you want to know the reason why he don’t want to register, you may ask him, but you don’t have to take for granted that he have an “illegitimate reason’.<<< If you re-read my post, you'll see that I *did* ask him why he wanted to do it. If he had a logical (and legal) reason, I would be happy to offer suggestions, but I don't want to assist someone on the COW who may be doing something illegally. >>>When somebody ask how to rip a commercial DVD the Cow just shuts the mouth. I think that’s the best answer. <<< You have every right to keep quiet if that's the best answer (for you). I choose to find out why he wants avoid registration. If he answers, I can decide whether to help or not. >>>Where i live people is innocent until declared guilty by a court. I’m a video editor, not a judge neither a policeman.<<< Yeah, I wish I lived in a country like that. 🙂 Regards, Ed "

I would create an SD sequence. Open the HDV clips in the Viewer and go to the Motion tab, where you can adjust the scale and position, and use keyframes to do zooms, etc.

Hey, thanks for the advice Rafael, you answer the way you want and I’ll answer the way I want. When someone wants to know how to circumvent registration, it’s usually for an illegitimate reason. If that’s the reason he wants to know how to do it, I don’t want to help him (I don’t believe the COW does either). If he explained why he wanted to do it, and it wasn’t for unethical reasons, I would be glad to help. If you don’t care, that’s your business.

    [Rafael Amador] “Hi Ed,
Walter is just asking you how to do something. If you don’t know the answer, jut don’t post. The reason why he doesn’t want to register I don’t think is your problem.
    Hi Walter,
Sorry but I don’t know how to do it. “

Ah, you’re back. Didn’t like the answers you got last time you asked? 🙂
What are you worried about? Why are you afraid to register? This may be
a rhetorical question, since, other than the usual “I don’t want to share anything
with anybody” sentiments, there’s most likely only one reason you’re afraid
of Apple learning who you are.

April 3, 2008 at 7:00 pm in reply to: For DVD use

So little information to go on.
What do you want to do with it? Is it for the web? Is it
going to play from a laptop or desktop? Audio and video
muxed together is called Program Stream (vs Elementary Stream for
unmuxed, separate files, like for normal DVD use).
If you’re creating a DVD for DVD player use, you do want to have
the audio and video separate. But we can’t guess these things,
you need to tell us what you’re trying to do.

    February 18, 2008 at 7:05 pm in reply to: 500GB+ portable bus-powered FW800 drive?

Actually Walter, my math may be off, but there is a difference in reliability between a single drive and a 2 drive RAID0. Twice as many drives, each with a possibility of failure, and the odds are greater that the raid will fail before a single drive. Or maybe this is one of those quantam things I slept through in math. 🙂
    Ed

[walter biscardi] “Um, you’re talking about a single drive so by default there’s no “protection” for a single drive.

Hence there is no difference between a single drive and the RAID 0 of the G-RAID mini.

There’s nothing wrong with RAID 0 so long as you back up your material, just as if you’re going to get this single drive, you need to back up that material if you want to protect it.”
