I think the upgrade from 4.5 to FCS2 is $700. So it’s not like you have to lay out the whole $1,200+ for the latest FCP. (I’m sure FCExpress is much cheaper though. 🙂

And if I remember correctly, the new 500gig notebook drives are too fat to fit in a MBP, so 200-300g might be the biggest.

But the MXO2, scheduled to ship in July (we’ll see) does I/O in digital and analog HD and SD, all for $1,500. One notable thing it doesn’t do (that the IOHD does) is hardware assisted convertion to ProRes.

One quick thought. We’ve had a couple of similar situations with limited b-roll, and what worked for some of it was to scale down the talking head (1/4 to 1/3) and reposition it in different parts of the frame at cuts. So the full frame guy telling you how to mow the lawn becomes a 1/4 scale guy at the lower left when you cut to him telling you how to fill the lawn mower with fuel, and so on, and on and on…….
It also allows you to do fast cuts that you might not otherwise be able to do (now he’s big, now he’s small, now he’s big again, man this is exciting!!!)

Not sure because I’m on my laptop right now, but doesn’t Disk Utility (built right in to the OS) now have a button for Journaling Unjournaling?
BTW, my suggestion is, enable jounaling on *all* drives, unless the (slight) performance hit
is too much (meaning, if you’re a bleeding edge, fill my RAID to the max, “I only do 1080P with 5 video streams” kind of person). 🙂

Well, I can see why you would like it Ben, as a Microsoft employee. 🙂 And it may well be *your* favorite encoder since Cleaner 3.1, but for the rest of the real world where clients expect QT, FLV, and other output formats (not just wmvs), it doesn’t compare at all to Cleaner (or current tools like Episode). The quality of WMVs may be great, but I think most people want a tool (like Cleaner was) that will give them more than just WMVs.

My main thought is that, if you’re using your JVC mostly for cine work, then the Red may be a great, higher quality alternative. If you’re using your JVC for run and gun ENG work, then it’s going to be hard lugging all the extra Red gear around with you.
As small as the Reds are, they’re not designed for running around. So it depends on what kind of shooting you do.
