Another trick is to rename the folder where you source clips reside to “hide” them from PPro. Then, when you open the project, offline all the clips. Does the project load?

I believe you are approaching this from the wrong angle. You are trying to find out how to make Premiere Pro do things the way Avid does. I would strongly recommend that you learn how Premiere Pro works (from the ground up, so to speak) and then you will know how to do things in Premiere Pro regardless of how they’re done in other products.

You will find links to many free tutorials in the PremiereProPedia that will quickly show you how things are done in Premiere Pro.
